Job Description

POSITION SUMMARY:

Evaluates, identifies, and provides services to students who meet eligibility for speech-language impairments (PreK – HS). Works collaboratively and communicates with professionals and parents regarding integration of speech and language goals into classroom and home environment. Follows federal, state, and local procedures. This position reports to the assigned supervisor.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Identifies speech and language disordered students through evaluation; analyzes communication skills of students found in the identification process; integrates designated curriculum. Participates in or conducts students’ staffing in order to related pertinent data used in the determination of students’ needs.

Schedules students and conducts assigned classes at the times scheduled. Provides consultative services to teachers, parents administrators and allied agencies in order to integrate speech and language goals into the classroom, other educational programs, and the home environment.

Evaluates and reports student progress for continuation or termination of services. Participates with school administration/coordinators for effective planning, coordination and implementation of speech/language pathology program into the total education system.

Recommends the purchase of instructional and therapy materials for language therapeutic classes; assists in maintaining these supplies in an orderly manner. Participates in establishing and maintaining the Center's data collection system and safeguarding all records pertaining to individual cases.

Maintains accurate, complete and appropriate records and files reports promptly. Demonstrates accurate and up-to-date knowledge of content.

All other duties, as assigned and required, in order to perform the above services.

KEY JOB REQUIREMENTS:

Master’s degree in Speech and Language Pathology from an accredited college or university required.

Minimum 3 years teaching experience within field.

Prior teaching experience in a K-12 public school environment; makes decisions and final recommendations which routinely affect the activities of others. Georgia Professional Licensure S-5.

Varied independent level of judgment: supervisor is available on an as needed basis. Limited occasional contact required with school personnel (colleagues, school administrators etc.)

Limited occasional contact required with the community (parents, outside agencies etc.) Requires excellent teaching, written and verbal skills.

Applies technology concepts to improve efficiency and effectveness of District; must be proficient with computer.

WORKING CONDITIONS Normal school setting May requires travel for off-site locations and school site visits.

PHYSICAL EFFORT Light duty - On most occasions sitting at a desk or table; intermittently sitting, standing, or stooping Light lifting or carrying 20 lbs. or less.
