Speech Language Pathologist Overview:
- The Speech Language Pathologist assists in the planning, organizing, developing, and directing Speech Language Pathology Services in accordance with current applicable federal, state, and local standards, guidelines and regulations, and as may be direction by Administrator, to assure that highest degree of quality resident care is maintained at all times.
Responsibilities
- Provides therapy services to residents and initiates referrals when appropriate and in accordance with Rehabilitation Department procedures.
- Review requests for Speech Language services and physicians' orders.
- Decide on type of therapy most desirable after consulting with physician.
- Conduct screening of residents at regular intervals to determine need for intervention/treatment.
- Evaluates residents to obtain data necessary for treatment planning and implementation.
- Conducts specialized evaluations as indicated.
- Interprets and communicates evaluation findings to residents, family, and other team members.
- Establish individual resident schedules in conjunction with other team members.
- Develops treatment plans by identifying a problem list, including short and long term goals and methods to achieve identified goals.
- Participate in development and implementation of resident assessments (MDS) and care plans, including quarterly reviews Coordinates treatment plan with resident, family, and other team members.
- Implements and conducts treatment as outlined in treatment plan.
- Monitors resident's response to intervention and modifies treatment as indicated to attain goals in accordance with physician's orders.
- Provides/recommends adaptive devices or other equipment; trains resident and caregiver in use or application of orthotics and prosthetics.
- Participates in discharge planning.
- Develops appropriate home or community programming to maintain and enhance performance of resident in his/her own environment.
- Documents results of resident's assessment, treatment, follow-up, and termination of services Ensures all therapist notes are informative and descriptive of care provided and of resident's response to treatment.
- Supervises students and volunteers in accordance with state regulations. Adheres to department procedures regarding documentation of services.
- Consistently demonstrates sound judgment in evaluation, planning, implementation, and follow up of resident therapy program.
- Records indirect and billable treatment time according to department procedures and submits monthly statistics to billing office.
- Provides treatment in accordance with established standards of practice, department procedures and productivity standards.
Qualifications
- M.A. or M.S. Degree in Speech-Language Pathology from an approved school required.
- State license in which work is performed to practice as a SLP.
- Interest in speech-language therapy treatment programs for the pediatric population
- Ability to direct others necessary.
- Current, valid CPR/BLS credential.
- Displays genuine concern for the children, patient and compassionate attitude.
- Two years of experience in speech-language therapy preferred.
- Clinical Competence Certification from the American Speech and Hearing Association preferred.
- This position requires regular interaction with residents, coworkers, visitors, and/or supervisors. In order to ensure a safe work environment for residents, coworkers, visitors, and/or supervisors of the Company, and to permit unfettered communication between the employee and those residents, coworkers, visitors, and supervisors, this position requires that the employee be able to read, write, speak, and understand the English language at an intermediate or more advanced level.
