Job description





Pediatric Speech-Language Pathologists (SLP) with certification by the American Speech Language-Hearing Association (ASHA) provide clinical services to individuals with pediatric speech, language cognitive, voice and swallowing disorders. Services include diagnosis, evaluation, therapy, treatment and follow-up. All clinical fellows in Speech-Language Pathology are supervised by ASHA certified SLP’s.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provides clinical speech-language pathology services to HFHS patients including:
    • Consultation with patients, family, and HFHS staff about communication and swallowing disorders;
    • Diagnoses speech, language or swallowing disorders and evaluates patient's condition and prognosis;
    • Develops treatment/therapy programs for patients;
    • Schedules and conducts patient follow-up visits.
  • Operates clinical equipment to measure speech production characteristics during patient evaluations and treatment.
  • Performs endoscopic assessment of vocal fold vibratory function and swallowing function.
  • Interacts with dietary personnel in developing nutritional menus and/or eating programs for patients with limited swallowing abilities.
  • Prescribes appropriate communication technology after cancer or laryngeal surgery. Teaches patient to utilize technology and effectively develop their communication skills.
  • Participates in all phases of departmental education and research programs including program development and clinical fellow orientation and instruction.
  • Supervises the activities of departmental graduate students and clinical fellows including work scheduling, motivation, performance appraisal, and day-to-day work duties.
  • Represents the Institution at community, regional and national conferences. Educates local community and social organizations on programs available at HFHS.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned or requested.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

  • Master’s Degree in Speech-Language Pathology from an accredited graduate program;
  • Successful completion of the National Praxis Examination;
  • Successful completion of the Clinical Fellowship Year.
  • One year of experience in a clinical setting required.
  • This is a Pediatric SLP position - experience working with children with speech and language delays and disorders including those on the autism spectrum is preferred

LICENSURES AND CERTIFICATIONS REQUIRED:

  • The State of Michigan license; Certificate of Clinical Competence by ASHA
