Job summary

Trinity Health Livonia Hospital in Livonia, MI seeks a part-time Speech-Language Pathologist to diagnose and treat speech, language, swallowing, and cognitive-communication disorders, with a focus on maximizing participation and independence.

Qualifications

• Requires Master's degree in Speech-Language Pathology.
• Six to twelve months related experience preferred.
• State of Michigan SLP license or CFY eligibility; full license within ~1 month of CFY.
• CCC via ASHA preferred or obtained after CFY requirements.

Responsibilities

An Opportunity to Join our Remarkable Care Team in the Speech Therapy Department awaits YOU!!!!

Provides differential diagnosis of speech and language disorders and provides appropriate therapeutic intervention to maximize communication ability. Active participation is required in department in-services and educational programs. Assumes full responsibility for providing quality speech-language pathology services in compliance with ASHA and State of Michigan SLP scope of practice. Independently provides comprehensive services to improve patient participation, independence, and functioning through the evaluation of medical necessity for skilled speech therapy services, evidence-based therapeutic interventions, multidisciplinary team involvement, counseling, referrals, and education. Continues to advance clinical skills through continuing education, evidence-based research, and program development. The speech-language pathologist is responsible for the maintenance of their national certification through ASHA as preferred, state licensure, and necessary requirements for continuing education. The Speech-Language Pathologist consults with, advises, reports to and is responsible to the Manager of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation.

Essential Functions And Responsibilities

• Provides evaluation and diagnosis of speech, language, swallowing and cognitive-communication disorders.
• Designs and implements individual treatment plans.
• Counsels patients and their families concerning social, behavioral and psychological problems associated with communication and swallowing disorders.
• Provides thorough documentation of test data and Speech-Language progress.
• Provides patient and family recommendations and referrals to appropriate health, educational and vocational sources.
• Participates in patient conferences when appropriate and communicates with individual members of medical staff concerning patient treatment as necessary.
• Organizes and participates in educational activities for patients, their families, and other health personnel.
• Provides direction for graduate student affiliates and volunteers.
• Maintain knowledge of current evidenced based practices in the field by reading the appropriate literature and attending professional conferences.
• Assists manager in the development of new policies, procedures and programs as well as implementation.
• Provides quality patient care considering age specific, developmental and cultural needs through competent practice and application of the speech-language pathology profession.
• Maintains good rapport and cooperative relationships. Conflict approaches in a constructive manner. Helps to identify problems, offer solutions, and participate in their resolution.
• Maintains the confidentiality of information acquired pertaining to patients, physicians, employees, and visitors to Trinity Health Livonia Hospital. Discuss patient and hospital information only among appropriate personnel in appropriately private places.

WORKING CONDITIONS

Primarily patient care environment which may include inpatient rehabilitation, acute care rehabilitation, and/or outpatient rehabilitation clinics. Ability to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as the site demands.

Required Education, Experience And Certification/Licensure

Education

Requires Master's degree in Speech-Language Pathology.

Six To Twelve Months Related Experience Preferred

Certification/Licensure

• Minimum:
  • State of Michigan Speech-Language Pathologist License or Speech-Language Pathologist Educational Limited Temporary License during their clinical fellowship year (CF), or eligible to obtain licensure prior to hire date. Employee is expected to attain the full license once within one month of completing Clinical Fellowship Year as defined as 36 weeks and 1260 hours.
  • In the case of a CFY, attainment of the Certificate of Clinical Competence (CCC) in Speech-Language Pathology through ASHA is required once 36 hours and 1260 hours of employment is completed.
• Preferred:
  • Hold and maintain the Certificate of Clinical Competence (CCC) in Speech-Language Pathology through ASHA or be provisionally accepted during their clinical fellowship year (CF). To act as a supervisor for a student or CFY, CCC must be maintained.
  • American Heart Association BLS or equivalent

Required Skills And Abilities

Analytical skills necessary to select and administer appropriate Speech-Language tests, differentially diagnose Speech-Language disorders, develop a treatment plan and modify treatment as patient progresses. Strong written, verbal and interpersonal skills necessary to communicate effectively with patients, families, physicians and other professional/non-professional staff. Ability to concentrate and pay close attention to detail for up to 70% of work-time when implementing evaluation/treatment services and maintaining patient documentation.
