Position Title: SPEECH LANGUAGE PATHOLOGIST MASTER CLINICAL EDUCATOR (2 POSITIONS)

Position Summary

The primary responsibilities of the Speech Language Pathologist (SLP) Master Clinical Educator are on-site clinical education in clinical and didactic classrooms and evaluation of students performing preventative, diagnostic, consultative, and individual and/or group treatment services in the speech-language pathology program. The SLP Master Clinical Educator schedules their assigned caseload each semester. In addition, the SLP Master Clinical Educator works to coordinate clinical experiences that involve inter-professional education and practice and simulated/standardized events. This position may also be involved in planning and implementing collaborative programs on and off-campus that involve clinical experiences, service learning, and/or programs of community engagement. The SLP Master Clinical Educator may also provide direct clinical services to the community on a twelve-month basis. This position functions under the direct supervision of the Director of Clinical Instruction and Speech-Language Pathology Services or a designated representative. This position also exercises supervision over student employees as assigned.

Required Qualifications
  • Master’s degree.
  • Possession of an ASHA Certification of Clinical Competence: Speech-Language Pathology (CCC-SLP).
  • Possession of a valid Michigan SLP license.
  • Three years of professional experience as a Speech-Language Pathologist with pediatric and adult populations.
  • Three years experience in the diagnosis and treatment of cognitive-communicative disorders across the lifespan.
  • Experience providing clinical instruction to undergraduate and/or graduate students.
  • Ability to perform the essential functions of the position, with or without reasonable accommodation.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Clinical supervisory experience and demonstrated evidence-based competence in clinical education of speech-language pathology students.
  • Expertise in a range of communication and swallowing disorders, with interest in infants through geriatrics.
  • Experience providing inter-professional education and practice.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain positive interpersonal relations.
  • Demonstrated flexibility and ability to function in a dynamic environment.
Duties & Responsibilities
  • Provides clinical education in face-to-face and telepractice clinical settings, along with simulated settings, and didactic classroom settings of undergraduate and graduate speech-language pathology students.
  • Evaluates and treats clients and monitors subsequent follow-up.
  • Coordinates students at off-campus sites or as GAs, as assigned.
  • Teaches or co-teaches either CSD 494, CSD 495 or SLP 749 or other academic courses as assigned.
  • Attends university/college/department/division/clinic meetings as appropriate.
  • Coordinates scheduling of assigned clinical caseload.
  • Integrates inter-professional education and practice in clinical education and service delivery.
  • Plans and coordinates simulated experiences to supplement and/or remediate clinical education.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

The Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders (CSD) has a faculty/staff of 35, and an enrollment of approximately 120 graduate students and 200 undergraduate signed majors. The department’s academic and clinical programs are accredited in both speech-language pathology and audiology by the Council on Academic Accreditation (CAA) of the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA). Over 5,000 clients are seen annually, including 100+ participants in the Summer Specialty Clinics program.
