Job Summary

Evaluates, plans, directs, and administers programs of speech-language pathology in an acute care setting, upon referral by a physician.

Essential Functions

• Plans and conducts speech-language pathology programs to restore function, prevent disability, and help patients reach maximum independence.
• Supervises Rehab Technicians, volunteers, and students.
• Provides direct therapy services to patients in a setting requiring service 7 days a week, including holidays (acute care, rehab, and skilled nursing).
• Gathers and interprets data from medical records, physician reports, patients, and families, documented appropriately.
• Evaluates patients, selects assessment techniques, and develops care plans including modalities, procedures, exercises, therapeutic groups, and education based on holistic patient needs.
• Documents evaluations, tests, progress notes, treatment, education, outcomes, discharge notes, and charges.
• Re-evaluates patients as needed, modifies goals, and communicates progress to physicians and staff.

Physical Requirements

Requires hearing (corrected), vision (corrected), intelligible speech, and adequate language/cognitive skills. Must be able to sit, stand, walk, and occasionally climb stairs, kneel, twist, bend, crouch, crawl, and reach overhead. Lifting up to 20 pounds frequently and 50 pounds occasionally. PPE such as gloves, goggles, gowns, and masks may be required. Work environment is fast-paced, primarily indoors, with occasional outdoor work.

Education, Experience, and Certifications

Master's Degree in Speech Language Pathology from an accredited program required. NC licensure for SLP required. Minimum 1-year experience preferred. BLS certification required per policy.
