Responsibilities

Essential Duties and Responsibilities of the Speech Language Pathologist (SLP):

  • Conduct comprehensive evaluations of patients’ speech, language, cognitive-communication, and swallowing abilities.
  • Use standardized tests, observations, and patient/family interviews to diagnose communication and swallowing disorders.
  • Develop individualized treatment plans based on assessment results, patient goals, and clinical judgment.
  • Set realistic, measurable short-term and long-term goals for each patient.
  • Provide evidence-based speech, language, cognitive-communication, and swallowing therapy.
  • Implement therapy techniques and strategies tailored to each patient’s specific needs.
  • Maintain accurate and timely documentation of patient assessments, treatment plans, progress notes, and discharge summaries.
  • Prepare and submit required reports to healthcare providers, insurance companies, and regulatory agencies.
  • Work collaboratively with an interdisciplinary team, including physicians, nurses, occupational therapists, physical therapists, and dietitians.
  • Communicate effectively with patients, families, and caregivers to provide education, support, and strategies for carryover of skills outside of therapy sessions.
  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives to enhance patient care and outcomes.
  • Stay current with the latest research, trends, and best practices in speech-language pathology through continuing education and professional development.
  • Adhere to all professional, ethical, and regulatory standards, including those set by the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA) and state licensing boards.
  • Ensure compliance with facility policies, procedures, and safety regulations.
  • Participate in departmental meetings, case conferences, and in-service training sessions.
  • All other duties as assigned
Qualifications

Qualifications of the Speech Language Pathologist (SLP):

  • Master’s Degree in Speech-Language Pathology from an accredited program.
  • Licensed or Eligible for licensure in the state in which practicing.
  • Certification of Clinical Competency (CCC) by the American Speech Language Hearing Association (ASHA) or be completing the ASHA Clinical Fellowship Year requirements.
