Yankton School District 63-3 invites a qualified Speech Language Pathologist to serve infants through 21-year-old students with speech, language, and hearing disorders. This role delivers direct services per IEPs, conducts screenings, and collaborates with families and teachers to support communication goals.

The incumbent will maintain therapy files, participate in case conferences, and provide guidance on language-friendly classroom strategies, while also offering assistive technology support

Qualifications

  • A valid South Dakota teaching certificate with a Code 402 endorsement.
  • Master’s degree in speech and language.
  • ASHA certification in speech pathology.
  • Experience in speech pathology and audiology.
  • Experience in early childhood teaching.
  • Experience in elementary teaching.
  • Experience with assistive technology assessments and services.

Responsibilities

  • Complies with all state laws, administrative rules and district policies which affect education.
  • Provides direct and supportive services to district students from birth to 21 years of age, with communication and/or hearing disorders.
  • Provides speech and language services as assigned on student’s IEP.
  • Identifies pupils suspected of having communication and/or hearing disorders through screening or referral.
  • Completes diagnostic evaluations in the speech, language or hearing areas upon parent permission.
  • Provides goal based remediation in individual and/or group sessions.
  • Conducts periodic re-assessment of student progress in achieving instructor goals and objectives in therapy and in the classroom setting.
  • Counsels and instructs parents in understanding, preventing or remediating speech, language and hearing problems.
  • Counsels and instructs classroom and special education teachers in methods of working with the language impaired child in the classroom.
  • Participates upon request in the placement committee process.
  • Conducts parent conferences.
  • Maintains appropriate and usable therapy files.
  • Maintains records in the cumulative folder with respect to: communication logs, progress and therapy, and other pertinent data that applies to speech, language and hearing.
  • Attends case study and faculty meetings in his or her assigned buildings.
  • Communicates speech, language, and hearing programs to the community.
  • Assists in the organization of speech, language, and hearing programs.
  • Arranges placement committee meetings, reviews, and parent conferences for students who are only in speech and language programs.
  • Performs other such duties as assigned by the Superintendent of Schools or Director of Student Services.
  • Provides assistive technology services as appropriate.
