Nationwide Children’s Hospital Downtown Campus ECMH Outpatient Clinic seeks a Speech-Language Pathologist to diagnose and treat speech, language, voice, and swallowing disorders, helping children improve communication and quality of life through evidence-based therapies. You will collaborate with an interdisciplinary team, educate families, document care, and participate in staff development.

A master's in SLP, Ohio licensure, ASHA certification or supervision eligibility, and pediatric

Qualifications

  • Master's Degree in Speech-Language Pathology (required).
  • Valid Ohio License in Speech Pathology (required).
  • ASHA Certification, or eligible for supervision under a certified SLP during fellowship (required).
  • CPR certification within 60 days of hire (required).
  • Previous pediatric experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Evaluates patients with varied diagnoses to determine developmental and functional status and develops individualized treatment plans.
  • Administers therapeutic treatment to improve communication and swallowing abilities; observes and adjusts plans as needed.
  • Educates patients and families on treatment goals and home activities; monitors compliance and understanding.
  • Documents care, manages caseloads, scheduling, and billing entries following hospital policies.
  • Communicates patient status and collaborates with physicians and other healthcare providers.
  • Teaches hospital staff, students, and fellows; supervises Clinical Fellows and licensed aides.

Overview:

With 1 in 7 children ages 0-5 experiencing behavioral health challenges that can impact development and school readiness, Early Childhood Mental Health (ECMH) services play a critical role in promoting healthy development, preventing mental health concerns, and treating mental health disorders in young children. This position will operate on our Downtown Campus within the ECMH Outpatient Clinic.

Job Description Summary:

Diagnoses and treats speech, language, voice, and swallowing disorders, helping patients improve their communication abilities and quality of life through various techniques and interventions.

Essential Functions:
  • Evaluates patients with varied diagnoses to determine developmental and functional status using standardized measures or clinical observations. Identifies patient’s strengths and deficits, establishes goals, and develops an individualized treatment plan incorporating patient and family needs.
  • Administers therapeutic treatment to patients with developmental delay or functional deficits to provide optimal development, function, and independence. Utilizes developmental activities and other treatment techniques to meet each patient’s specific needs and achieve therapy goals. Observes and modifies treatment plan accordingly.
  • Educates on treatment goals and therapy plans, instructs on therapeutic activities to follow at home, and evaluates ongoing compliance and understanding.
  • Documents as appropriate and in compliance with requirements of the hospital and accrediting associations. Maintains the administrative functions of individual caseload, including scheduling, entering daily charges, and submitting timely documentation.
  • Communicates patient’s status and collaborates with physicians, third-party payors, and relevant healthcare providers.
  • Conducts Speech Language Pathology educational programs and provides instruction for hospital staff, students, and community. Delegates to students from accredited programs and supervises Clinical Fellows and licensed speech aides.
Education Requirement:

Master’s Degree in Speech-Language Pathology, required.

Licensure Requirement:

Valid Ohio License in Speech Pathology, required.

Certifications:
  • Certification in Speech Pathology from the American Speech Language Hearing Association, or eligible for supervision by a certified speech-language pathologist during a fellowship experience, required.
  • CPR certification no later than 60 days post hire or post expiration, required.
