Job summary

Henry Ford Wyandotte Hospital Rehabilitation Services is seeking a Speech-Language Pathologist (ASHA-certified) to provide clinical services to adults and children with speech, language, cognitive, voice, and swallowing disorders. The role includes diagnosis, evaluation, therapy, and follow-up under supervision where appropriate.

The position involves collaboration with HFHS staff, supervision of students and fellows, and participation in education and research activities within the department.

Qualifications

  • Master’s Degree in Speech-Language Pathology from an accredited program.
  • Successful completion of the National Praxis Examination.
  • Clinical Fellowship Year completed; one year of clinical experience required.

Responsibilities

  • Provides clinical speech-language pathology services to HFHS patients including evaluation and treatment.
  • Diagnoses speech, language or swallowing disorders and projects prognosis.
  • Develops and implements treatment programs and schedules patient follow-ups.
  • Operates clinical equipment to measure speech production during assessments and therapy.
  • Supervises graduate students and clinical fellows, including scheduling and evaluation.
  • Represents HFHS at conferences and educates local communities about programs.

Job Description
GENERAL SUMMARY:

Speech-Language Pathologists (SLP) with certification by the American Speech Language-Hearing Association (ASHA) provide clinical services to individuals with adult and pediatric speech, language cognitive, voice and swallowing disorders. Services include diagnosis, evaluation, therapy, treatment and follow-up. All clinical fellows in Speech-Language Pathology are supervised by ASHA certified SLP’s.

Henry Ford Wyandotte Hospital Rehabilitation Services are provided in partnership with Shirley Ryan Ability Lab. This partnership allows for rehabilitation providers to take advantage of the extensive research, continuing education opportunities, and care excellence provided by the #1 Rehabilitation Hospital for the past 34 consecutive years.
Principal Duties And Responsibilities
  • Provides clinical speech-language pathology services to HFHS patients including:
    • Consultation with patients, family, and HFHS staff about communication and swallowing disorders;
    • Diagnoses speech, language or swallowing disorders and evaluates patient's condition and prognosis;
    • Develops treatment/therapy programs for patients;
    • Schedules and conducts patient follow-up visits.
  • Operates clinical equipment to measure speech production characteristics during patient evaluations and treatment.
  • Performs endoscopic assessment of vocal fold vibratory function and swallowing function.
  • Interacts with dietary personnel in developing nutritional menus and/or eating programs for patients with limited swallowing abilities.
  • Prescribes appropriate communication technology after cancer or laryngeal surgery. Teaches patient to utilize technology and effectively develop their communication skills.
  • Participates in all phases of departmental education and research programs including program development and clinical fellow orientation and instruction.
  • Supervises the activities of departmental graduate students and clinical fellows including work scheduling, motivation, performance appraisal, and day-to-day work duties.
  • Represents the Institution at community, regional and national conferences. Educates local community and social organizations on programs available at HFHS.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned or requested.
Qualifications
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
  • Master’s Degree in Speech-Language Pathology from an accredited graduate program;
  • Successful completion of the National Praxis Examination;
  • Successful completion of the Clinical Fellowship Year.
  • One year of experience in a clinical setting required.

  • The State of Michigan license; Certificate of Clinical Competence by ASHA
