Position Purpose

The incumbent shall be responsible for providing a full range of Speech and Language Pathology services including assessment, treatment planning, and therapeutic interventions in an interdisciplinary environment consistent with the position’s qualifications, professional practices, and ethical standards. With each patient encounter, the incumbent shall use AIDET, perform hand hygiene, assist with positioning patients for comfort and pain management, and perform an environment check prior to leaving the patient’s room while maintaining a clean and organized environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct a Speech and Language Pathology evaluation or screen.
- Select and administer the appropriate diagnostic procedures to determine the extent of the patient’s impairment and the prognosis for improvement.
- Develop an individualized Plan of Care with functional goals.
- Provide appropriate therapeutic interventions.
- Evaluate patient response to treatment and modify plan as necessary.
- Document the course of patient care including progress made and the continuing need for treatment.
- Provide patient and/or family education to help achieve goals.
- Adhere to KHI Attendance Policy.
- Communicate and demonstrate a professional image for patients, families, clients, coworkers, and others.
- Adhere to policies, rules, and regulations from KHI, the Arizona State Board of Speech and Language Pathology, and Medicare.
- Assist with orientation of new staff as requested.
- Meet KHI requirements for skills competency and safety.
- Participate in continuing education/professional development activities.
- Assist with the SLP students and Clinical Fellow program.
- Participate in staff meetings, client relations, and marketing activities.
- Ensure documentation is complete and accurate, meeting all KHI, Arizona State Board of Speech Language Pathology, and Medicare regulatory requirements.
- Complete billing by the end of each shift, ensuring accuracy, compliance with reasonable and necessary requirements, and proper documentation.
- Achieve individual productivity that meets department standards.
- Maintain patient satisfaction that meets or exceeds department standards.
Qualifications
- Education: Graduate of a Master’s Degree program, or foreign equivalent, in Speech & Language Pathology.
- Licensure: Current Arizona License for Speech & Language Pathology.
- Certification: BLS and AED through the American Heart Association.
- Certificate of Clinical Competency: (or eligible).
- Experience: Recent experience working with an adult and geriatric population.
Preferences
- Education/Experience: Serving people with physical disabilities is desirable.
- Exposure Category: Category II: Expected duties have possible, but not routine, potential for exposure to blood, body fluids, or tissues.
Work Requirements
The incumbent must have the ability to lift and transfer patients and equipment, stand, walk, sit, bend, stoop, crouch, and communicate to provide therapeutic interventions.
