Job summary

Nemours Children’s Health in Delaware is seeking a Casual Speech Pathologist (SLP) to provide coverage in our inpatient programs located in Wilmington. Coverage includes weekends.

The role involves evaluating and treating pediatric patients from birth to 17, with collaboration across disciplines, thorough documentation, and coordination with families and outside agencies. Delaware licensure and CCC-SLP are required; BLS within 6 months of hire.

Qualifications

  • Master's Degree in Speech-Language Pathology from an ASHA-accredited program.
  • Delaware SLP license required.
  • ASHA CCC-SLP required.
  • BLS certification within 6 months of hire.
  • 3–6 months of experience; new grads considered based on educational experiences.

Responsibilities

  • Provide speech-language pathology services in inpatient programs in Wilmington, DE.
  • Perform speech and feeding evaluations and therapy for patients from birth to 17.
  • Complete timely documentation in accordance with policy and standards.
  • Coordinate care with medical staff and outside agencies.
  • Contribute to interdisciplinary team discussions and education activities.
  • Participate in weekend/holiday inpatient coverage as required.

Nemours Children’s Hospital, Delaware (formerly Alfred I. duPont Hospital for Children), is hiring a Casual Speech Pathologist (SLP) to provide coverage as needed in our inpatient programs located in Wilmington, DE. Coverage needs include weekends.

This is a great opportunity to join a busy and growing Therapy team. We provide speech and feeding evaluations and therapy for patients with a wide variety of diagnoses, ranging in age from birth to 17. We are also an early intervention partner with Delaware’s Birth to Three Early Intervention Program, providing clinic-based services.

Provides discipline specific patient examination, evaluation, intervention, documentation, parent/caregiver education, communication, and coordination of care with medical/clinical staff and outside agencies as appropriate within the discipline specific scope of practice and the guidelines designated by the department and the Delaware Valley policies and procedures. Actively participates in departmental education activities in order to expand knowledge of patient populations and evidence-based practice.

  • Demonstrates proficiency in the care of all ages: pediatrics and adolescents. Demonstrates proficiency in the care of neonates as required by assignment.
  • Able to provide speech-language pathology services to a variety of patient types with recognition of his/her own limitations while seeking appropriate opportunities for discussion and resources as needed.
  • Completes timely documentation as required by departmental policy #7980.3.3, Joint Commission, and CARF standards.
  • Attends meetings related to patient treatment and contributes to discussion as an interdisciplinary team member.
  • Consults with other services, families, and outside agencies to recommend durable medical equipment, home/school modifications and transitional therapy program prior to discharge from therapy.
  • Maintains knowledge of and familiarity with insurance referral/authorization process and documentation requirements related to therapy services.
  • Completes all mandatory training; may include, but not limited to safety, infection control, corporate compliance, HIPAA, bioterrorism, CPR and program specific respiratory training.
  • When required by assignment, participates in weekend/holiday inpatient coverage rotation.
Job Requirements
  • Master's Degree in Speech-Language Pathology or its equivalent from an ASHA-accredited university required.
  • Minimum of three (3) to six (6) months experience required. New graduates will be considered based on educational experiences.
  • State of Delaware Speech Language Pathologist License required upon hire. Compact licensure is acceptable for primary licensure when the practitioner is eligible and maintains an active home-state license in a Compact state.
  • ASHA Certificate of Clinical Competency in Speech-Language Pathology (CCC-SLP) required upon hire.
  • American Heart Association BLS certification required within 6 months of date of hire and must be maintained for duration of employment.
  • Member of professional specialty organizations (ASHA, State Speech and Hearing Assoc.) preferred.
  • Clinical affiliation and/or work experience in pediatrics preferred.
  • Clinical affiliation and/or work experience in pediatric feeding and swallowing preferred.
  • Experience with physically and/or mentally challenged populations preferred.
