Job Description

This position is a Speech Language Pathologist Assistant (SLPA) responsible for performing tasks prescribed, directed, and supervised by a certified speech‑language pathologist.

Essential Functions
  • Assists other personnel as assigned by a special education administrator or certified speech‑language pathologist for the purpose of supporting them in the completion of their work activities.
  • Assists in the preparation and implementation of therapy materials, equipment, and resources for the purpose of maintaining a safe and supportive work and learning environment.
  • Collaborates with the SLP to develop and modify individualized treatment plans based on client needs and progress for the purpose of supporting student needs and services.
  • Collaborates with teachers for the purpose of developing plans and/or modifying curriculum to meet the academic needs of the student.
  • Communicates with students, parent/guardians, staff, and community for the purpose of facilitating communication between and among involved parties, as directed by the certified speech‑language pathologist.
  • Document and maintain accurate and detailed records of client progress, goals, and treatment sessions for the purpose of tracking student support needs and communicating with the speech‑language pathologist.
  • Implements therapeutic interventions and treatment plans under the supervision and guidance of the SLP for the purpose of supporting students on an IEP.
  • Maintains written materials for the purpose of documenting activities, providing written reference and/or conveying information.
  • Monitors individual students (e.g., collect observational data, etc.) for the purpose of providing assistance in preparation of progress reports/evaluations and ensuring a safe and positive learning environment, as directed by the certified speech‑language pathologist.
  • Performs additional duties as assigned by the supervisor for the purpose of meeting the needs of individual students.
  • Provides direct speech‑language services to students according to IEP goals for the purpose of ensuring compliance with established practices and procedures, as directed by the certified speech‑language pathologist.
  • Responds to inquiries (e.g., parents, teachers, staff, etc.) for the purpose of providing information or referring to appropriate personnel, as directed by the certified speech‑language pathologist.
  • Stays up-to-date with current research, advancements, and best practices in speech and language pathology for the purpose of providing accurate and supportive services to students.
  • Supports training for applicable staff on specific accommodations for students (e.g., communication devices, etc.) for the purpose of providing appropriate services as documented by the IEP, as directed by the certified speech‑language pathologist.
Job Requirements

Education: Bachelor’s degree in a job‑related area.

Experience: Job related experience with increasing levels of responsibility is desired.

Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities:

Required to perform multiple technical tasks with a need to periodically upgrade skills. Knowledge includes basic math (fractions, percent, ratios), reading technical information, document composition, facilitation of group discussions, and problem solving. Abilities include scheduling, data collection and collation, use of equipment, flexibility, collaboration with diverse individuals, data analysis, and creating action plans.

Job Environment: Physical demands include lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling and crawling. Requires significant fine‑finger dexterity and 50% sitting, 30% walking, 20% standing.

Certifications and Licenses: Eligible for SLPA Certification. Physical and Tuberculosis Clearance required. Clearance from Kansas Department of Children and Families and Kansas Bureau of Investigation.
