The Speech Language Pathologist Assistant (SLPA) supports the implementation of speech-language services to students identified with communication disorders. Under the direction and supervision of a licensed Speech Language Pathologist (SLP), the SLPA helps students improve their communication skills to access the general curriculum more effectively.
Bachelor's degree in Speech‑Language Pathology or Communication Sciences and Disorders.
Licensed as a Speech Language Pathologist Assistant by the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation (TDLR).
Maintain active licensure in accordance with TDLR and ASHA guidelines (Certificate of Clinical Competency not required for assistants but may apply if applicable).
Ability to read and interpret educational materials, professional journals, and legal regulations. Ability to write clear documentation and communicate effectively with a wide range of stakeholders.
Basic computation skills include addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, percentages, and ability to create simple data visuals.
Ability to follow written and verbal instructions. Capable of responding to unexpected situations and adapting to changing student needs. Professional demeanor in alignment with district expectations.
Occasionally required to lift up to 45 pounds, assist with mobility, and physically support students. Must be able to sit, kneel, or crouch as needed for therapy sessions.
May involve extended or irregular hours. Some travel between campuses may be needed.
