Master of Science or Arts Degree in Communication Disorders from an accredited Speech-Language Pathology program with ESB certification.
Clinical experience preferred
License inSpeech- Language Pathology isin good standing for the State of Michigan
Must hold a Certificate of Clinical Competence, (CCC) or be in Clinical Fellowship Year, (CFY) from the American Speech -Language and Hearing Association (ASHA). If the clinician has CFY they have 2 years from hire date to complete the (CCC). Specific job postings will indicate if Bronson is accepting applications from applicants still in their CFY stage.
An individual providing speech-language or hearing services who is inCFY will be supervised by a staff member who meets the requirements for the ASHA CCC in the areas in which services are provided.
To facilitate payer enrollment, all individuals are required to have an updated NPI number and Bronson will assist with this enrollment and will need the employee to provide his or her social security number as part of the enrollment process.
Specific job postings will indicate if experience is either preferred or required and the amount of years required.
BLS is required within 3 months after hire.
Keyboarding skills to operate a PC/mobile device.
Some work locations require a background check and finger-printing.
Some work locations require a weekend and/or holiday rotation either at their base department or in an applicable acute care setting.
Must work as a team member and be able to effectively communicate with patients, visitors, and all members of the care delivery team
Social sensitivity and the ability to communicate in English effectively are definitely required
Work which produces levels of mental/visual fatigue which are typical of jobs that perform a wide variety of duties with frequent and significant uncontrollable deadlines. Work may include the operation of and full attention to a personal computer or CRT up to 40 percent of the time.
Involves considerable standing or walking, regular lifting of light-weight objects (i.e., 20 pounds or less) and assisting with heavier tasks such as assisting in lifting and moving patients. Minor straining or fatiguing positions must be assumed, and some fatiguing physical motions are required.
Clinical Duties (Varies based on clinical location):
• Interdisciplinary discussion/rounds
• Interpretation and implementation of referrals; evaluates patient functional status and therapeutic needs through standardized assessment and testing; establishes functional baseline to be used throughout treatment as a gauge of progress and optimal functional independence.
• Establish education and treatment planning
• Evaluate and treat speech, language, cognitive, communication and swallowing disorders.
• Diagnostic and treatment practices are individualized to meet specific needs of persons served, including age and developmental status, gender, cognitive ability, learning style, cultural and language background, impairments, activity limitations, participation restrictions, environment, and family/caregiver/spouse.
• Speech- Language Pathologist screens for hearing issues as part of the evaluation.
• Providing in-services in areas of expertise for the Bronson Rehabilitation System
• Direct patient care according to the treatment plan; facilitates and instructs patients in the skills necessary to successfully participate
• Program development and participation in department process improvement
• Serving as a resource person in areas of expertise
• May need to cross train and provide coverage at other departments within Rehabilitation Services as needed.
• Patient and Familyeducation
• Patient care goal setting and establishing duration of therapy through the plan of care.
• Will perform video swallow studies if applicable per site.
Administrative Duties
Documenting evaluations patient treatment plans, treatments performed, and progress; indicates condition in relationship to established goals and adapts treatment plan to enhance therapy potential.
Documenting in the electronic health record per compliance timelines
Responsible for communicating to leadership limitations that prevent timely documentation.
Participation in process improvement
Providing in-services in areas of expertise for both Bronson and the community
Serving on committees and task forces
Supervision of students and volunteers
Demonstrates time management skills
The Speech-Language pathologist has the responsibility to maintain and upgrade his/her competencies based on the population serviced, the type and nature of the care provided, and advances in healthcare sciences and technology.
