Speech Language Pathologist - Acute Care (PRN)

Job Title: Speech Language Pathologist
Primary Location: Mary Free Bed at Covenant: 700 Cooper Ave

Essential Job Responsibilities
  • Assumes full responsibility for evaluating patient’s need for speech therapy, planning and executing individual treatment programs in accordance with ASHA and SLP scope of practice.
  • Provides patient care, treatment, and services within the scope of license and state regulations.
  • Evaluates patient condition and establishes treatment goals collaboratively with patient, family, and treatment team.
  • Creates and administers written treatment plans, delegating responsibilities to Speech Assistants as appropriate.
  • Re‑evaluates patient status and treatment effects; revises treatment plans and reviews revised goals with patient and family.
  • Assesses need for medical equipment, orders appropriate equipment, evaluates its use, and instructs patients, families, and staff.
  • Participates in discharge planning and communicates with patient, family, community support services, and environmental limitations.
  • Demonstrates competence in required software and hardware.
  • Documents patient status and progress through initial evaluation, progress notes, and discharge summary according to reimbursement guidelines.
  • Communicates and collaborates with interdisciplinary team members to integrate speech‑language pathology services.
  • Participates in conferences and discussions as needed, exchanging written records with other team members.
  • Provides patient and family education, including written instructions on speech‑language pathology procedures.
  • Attends meetings and in‑services as designated.
  • Follows all hospital policies including patient confidentiality and infection control.
  • Meets or exceeds program productivity expectations.
  • Adheres to Mary Free Bed Standards of Behavior when working with patients, coworkers, and community members.
  • Supports program operations as assigned.
Essential Job Qualifications
  • M.S. or M.A. in Speech Pathology from an accredited university program.
  • Licensure required in every U.S. State and Territory where the therapist practices, meeting individual state law requirements.
  • For Medicaid billing in specific states, SLP‑CCC certification is required (DC, NC, WV, KY, MN, NE, KS, NM, NV, ID).
  • Possesses and maintains BLS certification to meet department/program protocol.
