Job summary

Rincon Valley Union Elementary School District is seeking a licensed Speech-Language Pathologist to assist staff in assessing, planning, and implementing instructional programs for students with communication disorders. You will provide direct therapy and collaborate with teachers to remediate speech, language, and hearing impairments within the educational program.

The position requires a MA/MS in Communications Disorders/Speech Pathology and a valid CA SLP credential.

Qualifications

  • MA/MS in Communication Disorders/Speech Pathology required.
  • California Speech-Language Pathology Services Teacher Credential or equivalent required.
  • Ability to collaborate with families, teachers and staff to implement IEPs.

  • Participates in meetings (IEP, RTI) and staff trainings.

Job description

Summary:

To assist staff in assessing, planning, identifying and implementing instructional programs for students with communication disorders; to provide services to remediate speech, language, hearing and/or communication disorders; to help remediate speech and language impairments that interfere with the individual student’s ability to derive full benefit from the educational program.

Essential Functions and Duties:
  • Provides a program to meet needs of students with speech, language, hearing and communication disorders.
  • Assists and guides families, teachers and other school staff members in observing, describing and referring students with suspected and/or identified communication disorders as appropriate.
  • Provides appropriate individualized programs to meet students’ needs.
  • Facilitates and/or participates in a variety of educational meetings related to student needs (e.g., IEP, RTI meetings).
  • Develops and implements IEP goals.
  • Provides information, support and counsel by collaborating with families, school staff and other involved agencies.
  • Provides training, inservice and/or staff development activities to a variety of audiences as requested.
  • Monitors student progress toward communication IEP goals and objectives.
  • Complies with all legal timelines and required reporting
  • Completes and maintains records of treatment and assessment as directed
  • Maintains required reports, records and legal documents of referred, screened and eligible students.
  • Delivers direct speech therapy services to students per IEP and provides language interventions in class working collaboratively with teachers and other specialists.
  • Maintain confidential information in records and files.
  • Attend staff trainings and meetings as required.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications:

Knowledge and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of practical application of principles, practices, methods and strategy applicable to students with communication disorders.
  • Knowledge of current research and development in field of specialty; laws, codes, regulations, ordinances and requirements which are applicable.
  • Knowledge of educational techniques, tests, materials, methods, theories and trends in identifying, assessing and instructing students with communication disorders.
  • Ability to organize referrals and respond promptly to them.
  • Ability to express ideas and concepts clearly and concisely in both oral and written form.
  • Ability to use language and medium appropriate for audience.
  • Ability to establish and maintain cooperative and professional working relationships with individuals, groups, public and private agency personnel.
  • Ability to maintain the confidentiality of student-related information.
  • Ability to develop rapport with students by being fair, consistent and respectful
  • Ability to plan, organize and prioritize work to meet deadlines and accomplish tasks within established timelines.
Education and Experience:
  • MA/MS from an accredited university with an emphasis in Communication Disorder/Speech Pathology.
  • A valid California Speech-Language Pathology Services Teacher Credential authorizing Speech, Language and Hearing, or a Clinical or Rehabilitative Services Credential with Speech, Language and Hearing authorization.
