Job Description & Summary

Sallisaw Public Schools is seeking a dedicated and qualified Speech-Language Pathologist (SLP) to provide diagnostic, habilitative, and rehabilitative services for students with speech, language, voice, and fluency disorders. The ideal candidate will work collaboratively with educators, parents, and administrative staff to ensure students overcome communication barriers to achieve their full academic and social potential.

Qualifications
  • License/Certification: Valid Oklahoma State License in Speech-Language Pathology; Oklahoma State Department of Education Certification as a Speech-Language Pathologist
  • Education: Master’s Degree in Speech-Language Pathology or Communication Disorders
  • Clinical Competence: Certificate of Clinical Competence (CCC-SLP) preferred; clinical fellows (CFY) matching district support capacities encouraged
  • Background Check: Must clear a criminal history background check
Essential Job Functions
  • Assessment & Evaluation: Conduct comprehensive screenings and evaluations to identify individual student needs and determine eligibility for speech-language services
  • IEP Development: Plan and implement an individualized program of study/therapy that meets the distinct needs, interests, and communicative abilities of students in compliance with state and federal IDEA curriculum guidelines
  • Therapeutic Intervention: Employ evidence-based instructional methods, materials, and assistive technologies best suited to help students achieve communication and curriculum goals
  • Environment Management: Create a supportive, nurturing, and therapeutic environment that is conducive to learning and tailored to the maturity levels and specific disabilities of the students
  • Progress Monitoring: Regularly assess student communicative performance, maintain accurate data logs, and provide detailed progress reports as required by law and district policy
  • Consultation & Collaboration: Counsel and collaborate regularly with classroom teachers, support assistants, principals, and parents to integrate communication strategies into the student's broader educational environment
  • Compliance: Assist the district in maintaining strict compliance with local, state, and federal special education mandates, including required documentation timelines
  • Professional Competence: Actively strive to maintain and improve professional license competencies, participate in staff meetings, and serve on instructional committees when requested
  • Student Safety: Enforce student conduct rules fairly and report any serious health, hygienic, or accidental issues affecting students immediately to the building administration
Other Job Functions & Physical Demands
  • Analytical Skills: Ability to define speech-related problems, collect clinical data, establish milestones, and draw valid therapeutic conclusions
  • Communication: Must be able to speak fluently and be clearly understood by students, parents, and professional colleagues
  • Physical Mobility: Regularly required to talk, hear, sit, stand, walk, and occasionally stoop or kneel to interact with students at their physical level
  • Lifting & Vision: Ability to frequently lift/move up to 25 pounds of testing or therapy materials; specific vision abilities include close vision and ability to adjust focus to read evaluations and administer tests
