Job summary

Eden Autism is hiring Speech-Language Specialists to support the Eden School and Adult Services programs in New Jersey. You will assess, plan, and implement speech-language therapy across diverse client groups, including those with autism, using varied communication modalities.

Licensed or CFY candidates are welcomed; extensive collaboration with a multidisciplinary team is expected, with ongoing family communication and progress reporting.

Qualifications

• Master's degree in Speech Language Pathology required.
• Minimum 1 year experience with speech/language disorders, preferably with autism.
• Valid driver's license required.
• NJ DOE Speech Language Specialist Certification preferred.
• Clinical Fellowship Year (CFY) during employment accepted.

Responsibilities

• Evaluate speech and language needs to enhance communication through primary modalities.
• Contribute to IEPs and ISP development; set short- and long-term goals; track progress.
• Manage maladaptive behaviors with support from behavior analysts and staff.
• Train staff on integrating speech programs into daily routines.
• Maintain weekly parent communication and quarterly progress reports.

Annual salaries starting at $70,000+, commensurate with education and experience!

RESPONSIBILITY SNAPSHOT

• Evaluate speech and language needs to enhance communication skills through each individual’s primary mode including verbal language, sign language, pictures or an augmentative device.
• Participate in the development of IEPs and ISPs. Define and implement program objectives for each individual through development of short- and long-term goals. Evaluate progress using data collection, standardized and informal assessments.
• Manage maladaptive behaviors including tantrums, self-injury, and aggression. Implement behavior support and education programs as defined in each individual’s IEP/ISP. Work with Behavior Analysts and support staff to develop appropriate alternate teaching programs for students.
• Assist with training staff on how to most effectively integrate speech programs into each individual’s daily routine.
• Maintain weekly communication with parents concerning progress and recommendations for home maintenance. Quarterly progress reports; Develop and maintain IEP/ISP goals and objectives.

MUST HAVES

• Master’s degree in Speech Language Pathology
• Minimum of 1 year of experience working with individuals with speech and language disorders, preferably with autism.
• Valid, unsuspended driver’s license
• NJ DOE Speech Language Specialist Certification preferred
• Applicants may complete Clinical Fellowship Year (CFY) during employment.

Adult Services requirements:

• Licensed by the state of New Jersey
• Certificate of Clinical Competence in Speech Language Pathology (CCC-SLP)

Physical Abilities

• Lift and/or move up to 50lbs.
• Sit, stand, bend, squat, kneel, stretch, stoop, and/or reach above shoulder level for extended periods of time.
• Pass and maintain Professional Crisis Management (PCM) certification, including implementation of all strategies and techniques.

Note: $3,000 signing bonus to be paid in 4 installments during a new hire’s first year of employment. Installments as follows: $500 upon completion of 2-week training; $500 upon completion of 90-day introductory period; $750 upon completion of 6 months of employment; $1250 upon completion of 1 year of employment.
