Job summary

HCA Healthcare is seeking a Speech Language Pathologist to evaluate and treat patients with speech, language or swallowing disorders. The role includes developing plans of care, documenting progress, and coordinating with physicians and care teams.

Job Summary And Qualifications
General Statement of Duties:

Evaluates patients, sets goals, plans treatment programs and treats patients according to physician’s orders; maintains required records and notes on patient care, assumes responsibility for patient charges; provides technical advice to support personnel and supervision of same.

Essential Job Functions:
  • Evaluates speech/language and swallowing abilities of patients who have impairments, functional limitations, disabilities or changes in physical function and health status resulting from injury, disease, or other causes, and synthesizes the data to establish a plan of care with therapeutic interventions and goals appropriate to patient’s age and development.
  • Documents evaluations, treatments, plan of care, charges, and discharge summaries utilizing professional jargon that supports skilled therapeutic necessity and the charges incurred in a concise and timely manner.
  • Determines efficacy of therapeutic interventions, technologies and outcomes in accordance with the Speech Therapy Practice Act in the state of Texas.
  • Interacts and confers with a variety of professionals including physicians, nurses, case management, PT’s and OT’s to implement and assess the intervention program.
  • Assumes responsibility to provide Director with constructive suggestions to problem solve, assist with maintaining productivity standards and setting a positive atmosphere for professional development.
  • Provides education, training and supervision of Certified Fellowship Year speech pathologists and speech therapy students.

  • Adheres to the MHS Code of Conduct and demonstrate ethical behavior as expected by our patients, colleagues and the community. Understand the personal obligations to report any activity that appears to violate applicable laws, rules regulations or the Code of Conduct itself.
  • Completes other duties as assigned.

  • Safety Intervention: Having knowledge of conditions that affect patient, self, and/or employee safety under normal conditions and conditions that occur in crisis situations. Skilled in identifying conditions that might cause health or safety hazards and takes action to remove such hazards. Understands all aspects of providing a safe environment for patient, self, and/or others in crisis.
  • Communication: Clearly conveying information and ideas through a variety of media to individuals or groups in a manner that engages the audience and helps them understand and retain the message.
Minimum Education and Experience:

Masters in Communications Disorders from a Speech Language Pathology Program.

Must maintain licensure by the Texas State Board of Examiners for Speech Language Pathology.

Prefer membership in ASHA.

Minimum License and Certificates Required:

Licensed Speech Language Pathologist, Basic Life Savers.
