Primary Purpose:

Provides comprehensive communication and swallowing rehabilitative services to facilitate the patient's ability to recover and return to an independent living environment.

Education:
  • Must meet the academic and clinical experience requirements of a Master's degree in Speech-Language Pathology from an accredited university.
Experience:
  • None required.
  • For PCHP: Minimum of two (2) years of combined experience providing speech therapy services in healthcare, home health, inpatient, outpatient, and/or school settings; pediatric clinical experience is preferred.
  • Minimum of two (2) years of prior authorization review experience with Texas Medicaid, a Medicaid State Agency, a health plan, or Managed Care Organization is preferred. Knowledge of prior authorization/utilization management processes and the ability to interpret Texas Medicaid guidelines is also preferred.
Certification/Licensure:
  • Fellowship Only: Must have an intern license in Speech Language Pathology from the Texas State Board of Examiners in Speech Language Pathology and Audiology within 30 days of placement in the job.
  • Must have a current Healthcare Provider CPR course completion card prior to hire and/or placement from one of the following:
    • American Heart Association
    • American Red Cross Rescuer
    • Military Training Network
  • OR Speech/Language Pathologist Only: Must be licensed by the Texas State Board of Examiners for Speech Language Pathology and Audiology.
  • Must hold a Certificate of Clinical Competence (CCC) issued by the American Speech and Hearing Association (ASHA).
  • Must have a current Healthcare Provider CPR course completion card prior to hire and/or placement from one of the following:
    • American Heart Association
    • American Red Cross Rescuer
    • Military Training Network
Skills or Special Abilities:
  • Demonstrate a working knowledge of pediatric and/or adult neurogenic language disorders, swallowing, aphasia, dysarthria, apraxia, voice disorders, alaryngeal communication, articulation, and normal language development.
  • Effective communication skills with staff, patients, and family members.
