Job summary

The Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists (RCSLT) is seeking an experienced Speech and Language Therapist to join as SLT Professional Advisor for Adults on a 12-month fixed-term contract. The role blends clinical expertise with professional leadership and requires hybrid London-based attendance.

You will support member enquiries, contribute to SLT practice and workforce sustainability projects, and provide evidence-informed advice across the organisation.

Speech and Language Therapist (SLT) Professional Advisor (Adults)

Salary: Your full-time equivalent will be £46,669 (non-London based salary) + excellent benefits. Therefore, you will receive £9,334 per annum.

Hours: Part time, 7 hours per week, 12-month fixed term contract. Location: London based/hybrid (must be able to attend the London office as appropriate). Contract type: 12-month fixed term contract, part time.

Are you a passionate and experienced Speech and Language Therapist looking to use your clinical expertise to influence and shape the profession? We have two exciting opportunities for SLTs (one adults focused and one paediatrics focused role) to join the RCSLT and contribute to a diverse range of work, from supporting member enquiries and shaping projects around SLT practice and workforce sustainability, to contributing to consultations, endorsement requests and key professional issues.

The RCSLT is the professional body for speech and language therapists across the UK. The RCSLT has over 24,000 members and employs around 65 staff predominately based in a London office. The RCSLT also has offices in Belfast, Edinburgh, and Cardiff.

Our mission is to improve the lives of people with communication and swallowing needs by facilitating and promoting research, producing guidance, holding events, and influencing government. We aim to promote better education and training for speech and language therapists and provide information to our members and the public about speech and language therapy.

The role will provide timely, evidence-informed clinical and professional advice to support members and colleagues across the RCSLT, including member enquiries, SLT practice projects, consultations, endorsement requests and resources to support workforce resilience and sustainability. The postholder will work collaboratively across the organisation and with RCSLT's volunteer Clinical and Leadership Advisors and professional networks, using data, research and professional insight to inform advice and identify emerging issues and opportunities affecting the profession.

They will also horizon scan developments in clinical practice and the SLT workforce, contribute to relevant events and workstreams, and provide clinical content to support RCSLT communications and member engagement.

We're looking for an experienced, HCPC-registered Speech and Language Therapist who brings strong clinical and professional expertise, a commitment to evidence-based practice and a good understanding of the role of a professional body. You'll have significant experience working clinically within a relevant area of SLT (paediatric or adult focused) and be confident using research, data, outcome measures, audit, evaluation or quality improvement to inform practice and develop clear, evidence-informed recommendations.

You’ll be a highly organised and analytical professional, able to manage a varied and sometimes reactive portfolio of work, prioritise competing deadlines and make sense of complex information. Excellent communication and relationship-building skills are essential, and you'll be comfortable facilitating, collaborating, influencing and adapting your communication to different audiences, as well as building and maintaining professional networks.
