Job summary
Tees, Esk and Wear Valleys NHS Foundation Trust are seeking a qualified Speech and Language Therapist (SLT) to work with adults with learning disabilities (LD) in North Durham. The successful candidate will primarily work in North Durham, with potential coverage in other localities such as Darlington and Teesside, depending on service needs.
Main duties include assessing and treating communication, eating, drinking, and swallowing difficulties. The role involves collaboration with a multidisciplinary team of health and social care professionals, including SLTs, occupational therapists, physiotherapists, dieticians, nurses, social workers, psychologists, psychiatrists, support workers, and associate practitioners. The SLT will also supervise associate practitioners and delegate tasks accordingly. The caseload is diverse, emphasizing evidence-based, collaborative interventions.
The ideal candidate will hold a degree in Speech & Language Therapy, with experience working with adults with learning disabilities, mental health issues, or complex needs. Knowledge of relevant issues and awareness of national and local directives are essential. Applications from students due to qualify this year are welcome, but priority will be given to those already registered, especially those experienced in eating, drinking & swallowing assessments and treatments.
This role is part of a dynamic SLT LD and Mental Health service offering peer support, supervision, and CPD opportunities. There may be occasional assessments or interventions required in other Trust areas, including inpatient units.
