Description
The School District of La Crosse is accepting applications for a 1.0 FTE Speech and Language Pathologist for Emerson Elementary School beginning in the 2025-2026 school year. Projected start date: August 12, 2025.
A bonus of $6000 will be paid over a two-year contract commitment with $3000 being paid out after the first contract year and $3000 being paid out after the second contract year.
Description:
Wisconsin certification 1820 is required.
School Speech-Language Pathologists (SLPs) work collaboratively with school staff, students, and families to support students' communication skills and enhance their ability to participate in academic and social settings.
Qualifications Required:
- Education: Master’s Degree in Speech-Language Pathology from an accredited university.
- License: Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction license 1820: Speech-Language Pathologist.
- Certification: Certificate of Clinical Competence (CCC) from the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA) preferred or eligibility for Clinical Fellowship Year (CFY).
Qualifications Desired - Preference will be given to applicants with:
- Experience working with students aged 3 through 21 in a school setting.
- Knowledge of augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) devices and strategies.
- Strong skills in collaboration, consultation, and team-based service delivery.
- Experience with diverse student populations and evidence-based intervention strategies.
Essential Functions: Applicants are requested not to contact or send application materials to individual building principals. - Assessment & Evaluation:
- Conducts comprehensive speech, language, and communication evaluations.
- Interprets evaluation findings as a member of the Individualized Education Program (IEP) team.
- Makes appropriate recommendations for speech and language services.
- Intervention & Therapy:
- Develops and implements individualized treatment plans/IEPs.
- Provides direct and consultative speech-language services to students.
- Integrates therapy strategies into the classroom setting to support academic success.
- Collaboration & Consultation:
- Works collaboratively with teachers, occupational therapists, physical therapists, and other professionals to support student learning.
- Provides consultation and training to educators and parents regarding communication development and support strategies.
- Assistive Technology & AAC:
- Assesses students for the need for augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) devices.
- Implements and trains students and staff on AAC systems.
- IEP Development & Compliance:
- Participates in IEP meetings and develops measurable goals.
- Monitors student progress and adjusts interventions accordingly.
- Completes all required documentation in compliance with school and state regulations.
- Professional Development & Advocacy:
- Provides in-service training for school personnel on speech and language development.
- Engages in ongoing professional development to stay current with best practices in the field.
- Advocates for students’ communication needs within the educational environment.
- Diversity & Inclusion:
- Promotes diversity, equity, and inclusion in speech-language services.
- Utilizes culturally responsive practices to support students from diverse backgrounds.
- Additional Responsibilities:
- Maintains accurate service records and progress reports.
- Adheres to ethical and legal requirements for service delivery.
- Performs all other duties as assigned by the supervisor.
