Alvin ISD in Pearland, Texas, seeks a Secondary Special Education teacher (6th–8th grade) at Dr. Ronald E. McNair Junior High. You will provide functional and alternative learning activities in a self-contained setting and develop an aligned curriculum to meet each student’s needs.

Requirements include a bachelor's degree, a valid Texas teaching certificate with SPED endorsements, and experience with ARD/IEP processes and low-incidence disabilities.

Formación

• Bachelor’s degree from accredited university.
• Valid Texas teaching certificate with required special education and general education endorsements for assignments subject and grade level.
• Experience with ARD/IEP processes and implementing IEP goals.
• Knowledge of curriculum and instruction for grades 6–8 and behavior supports.

Primary Purpose

Provide special education students with functional and alternative learning activities and experiences in a self contained setting. Develop and implement an alternative curriculum aligned to grade level TEKS - incorporating fundamental academic skills, communication skills, socialization skills, domestic skills, community functioning skills, recreational/leisure skills, and pre-vocational/vocational skills to meet the unique needs of the individual students.

Qualifications

Education/Certification:

• Bachelor’s degree from accredited university
• Valid Texas teaching certificate with required special education and general education endorsements for assignments subject and grade level

Special Knowledge/Skills:

• Knowledge of special needs of students in assigned area
• Knowledge of Admission, Review, and Dismissal (ARD) Committee process and Individual Education Plan (IEP) goal setting process and implementation
• General knowledge of curriculum and instruction for grades assigned
• Knowledge of implementation of positive behavioral supports and individualized behavior intervention plans

Experience:

• At least one year student teaching or approved internship
• At least one year of experience working with students with low incidence disabilities
