Job summary

Alvin ISD is seeking a dedicated Special Education teacher for grades 6–8 at Dr. Ronald E. McNair Junior High.

The position focuses on delivering functional and alternative curricula in a self-contained setting, integrating academic, communication, social, and pre-vocational skills to meet individual student needs. Candidates must hold a Bachelor’s degree and a valid Texas teaching certificate with SPED endorsements.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of ARD process and IEP goal setting.
• Experience with positive behavior supports and PBIS.
• Strong curriculum knowledge for grades 6–8 and general education.
• Ability to develop functional and alternative curricula aligned to TEKS.

Responsibilities

• Provide special education in a self-contained setting.
• Develop and implement an alternative curriculum aligned to grade level TEKS.
• Incorporate academic, communication, social, domestic and vocational skills.
• Collaborate with ARD committees and school staff to support student goals.

Primary Purpose: Provide special education students with functional and alternative learning activities and experiences in a self contained setting. Develop and implement an alternative curriculum aligned to grade level TEKS - incorporating fundamental academic skills, communication skills, socialization skills, domestic skills, community functioning skills, recreational/leisure skills, and pre-vocational/vocational skills to meet the unique needs of the individual students.

Education/Certification

• Bachelor’s degree from accredited university
• Valid Texas teaching certificate with required special education and general education endorsements for assignments subject and grade level

Special Knowledge/Skills

• Knowledge of special needs of students in assigned area
• Knowledge of Admission, Review, and Dismissal (ARD) Committee process and
• Individual Education Plan (IEP) goal setting process and implementation
• General knowledge of curriculum and instruction for grades assigned
• Knowledge of implementation of positive behavioral supports and individualized behavior intervention plans

Experience

• At least one year student teaching or approved internship
• At least one year of experience working with students with low incidence disabilities

Salary: Teacher/10 Months
