Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree required.
  • Valid Georgia teaching certificate meeting PSC requirements (SPED General Curriculum); preferred Adapted Curriculum certification.
  • Physical ability to lift a student up to 40 pounds and assist with two-person lifts.
  • Strong written and oral communication; knowledge of disability areas and special education practices.

Responsibilities

  • Demosntrates prompt attendance and completes follow-up procedures for students referred for special education services.
  • Develops, implements, monitors, and regularly reviews IEPs for each student on caseload.
  • Works with parents/guardians in all aspects of the child’s educational program.
  • Maintains and submits accurate paperwork within designated timelines.
  • Delivers instruction according to IEPs and the established delivery model.
  • Maintains lesson plans and uses data-driven behavior management strategies (FBAs/BIPs).
  • Uses formative and summative assessments and reports progress to parents/guardians.
  • Ensures due process protections for students and parents/guardians.

Job Description
Preferred Qualifications
  • Education Level: Bachelor’s degree required.
  • Certification/License Required: Valid Georgia teaching certificate meeting PSC requirements (SPED General Curriculum); the preferred candidate will have certification in Special Education Adapted Curriculum.
  • Physical Activities: Routine physical activities that are required to fulfill job responsibilities; ability to lift a student up to a weight of 40 pounds without assistance; ability to perform a 2 person lift for student over 40 pounds
  • Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities: Written and oral communication; knowledge of areas of disability and special education practices and procedures; specialized instructional strategies that connect the curriculum to the learner; student behavior management

Performance Responsibilities
  • Demonstrates prompt and regular attendance.
  • Completes designated follow-up procedures for students referred for special education service.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of the eligibility process and assists with initiation of the process to completion of the eligibility/IEP.
  • Develops, implements, monitors, and regularly reviews the Individual Education Program (IEP) of each student on their caseload.
  • Works with parent/guardians in all aspects of their child’s educational program.
  • Compiles, maintains, and submits accurate paperwork within designated timelines.
  • Provides educational services according to the guidelines of the program and through the established delivery model for service.
  • Maintains lesson plans according to policies and/or directives.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of research-based practices by delivering specialized instruction to students according to their IEPs.
  • Develops and implements carefully designed data driven behavior management strategies including Functional Behavior Assessments (FBAs) and Behavior Intervention Plans (BIPs) based on student need.
  • Utilizes formative and summative assessments and collects data on student achievement and progress toward mastery of IEP goals and objectives and reports progress to parents/guardians on a regular basis.
  • Assures all due process procedural safeguards are afforded to students and their parents/guardians.
  • Facilitates effective use of instructive and assistive technology.
  • Adheres to district special education policies and procedures and federal regulations/state rules.
  • Serves as a resource to general education teachers who teach students with disabilities.
  • Seeks to improve knowledge and skills through professional learning and training activities associated with job related tasks and student needs.
  • Performs special duties required for meeting the unique needs of specific populations, i.e., lifting and positioning moderately intellectually disabled, orthopedically impaired, severely and profoundly disabled – using lumbar belts as required.
  • Meets expectations according to the general education teacher job description.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by appropriate administrator.
Terms of Employment

190-day position. Salary based on Board approved certified teacher pay schedule.

Evaluation

Performance of this job will be evaluated annually by the Principal or designee.
