Job Title: Self-Contained Paraeducator

Salary Schedule: Paraeducator (88) Lane Placement C1

Contract Length: Hourly

Job Summary

The special education self-contained paraeducator assists the supervising teacher by performing various tasks to support instruction and classroom programming, always working under the teacher's direction. The main responsibilities include providing direct services to students. Attendance, physical presence, and timeliness are essential.

Essential Functions
  1. Implement drill and practice exercises designed by the teacher for groups and individual students.
  2. Keep accurate data on students; follow data collection methods provided by the teacher.
  3. Supervise and monitor student activities within the school and community settings, such as assisting with transportation, recess, employment skills, and self-help development.
  4. Provide personal maintenance care related to self-help and hygiene, including feeding, catheterizing, toileting, diaper changing, and personal care tasks.
  5. Implement behavior management procedures consistently in accordance with district policies.
  6. Support a positive self-concept environment for students.
  7. Supervise students to ensure a safe learning environment.
  8. Use classroom materials and technology appropriately.
  9. Assist students in regular classes and prepare/adapt instructional materials under teacher guidance.
  10. Maintain confidentiality regarding student information, discussing only with authorized personnel.
  11. Work assigned hours reliably; bus supervision may be required.
  12. Participate in professional development as required.
  13. Presence and attendance are essential.
Non-Essential Functions
  • Other duties as assigned.
Required Education and Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • In a Title 1 school: 48 college credits or pass the ParaPro exam.
Prior Experience
  • Experience working with individuals with disabilities preferred.
Knowledge and Skills
  • Ability to follow directions from the special education team.
  • Skilled in achievement testing and data collection.
  • Effective stress management skills.
Decision Making
  • Makes decisions to accomplish assigned tasks within guidelines.
  • Works well under supervision and follows safety protocols.
Interactions
  • Positive interactions with students, parents, staff, and administrators.
Supervisory and Budget Responsibilities
  • Supervises student safety; no budget responsibilities.
Working Environment
  • Mainly in the classroom, may work outside or in different weather conditions, and may experience stress from student behavior.
Physical Requirements
  • Must speak, hear, stand, walk, reach, stoop, kneel, crouch, and occasionally climb or balance.
  • Vision abilities include close, distance, color, peripheral, and depth perception.
  • Must be able to lift/move up to 50 lbs.
