Job description

SPED Self Contained Classroom Teacher (Grades: K-4)

Job Responsibilities
  1. Collaborate with students, parents, and staff to develop Individual Education Plans (IEP) through the Admission, Review, and Dismissal (ARD) Committee process.
  2. Implement instructional, therapeutic, or skill development programs for assigned students, providing written evidence of preparation.
  3. Plan and utilize instructional strategies, activities, materials, and equipment tailored to students' learning styles and needs.
  4. Work cooperatively with classroom teachers to modify curricula and assist students with assignments.
  5. Participate in ARD Committee meetings regularly and help interpret educational programs to the community via activities like open house and PTA meetings.
  6. Manage student behavior according to IEP, including crisis intervention and physical restraint when necessary.
  7. Conduct ongoing assessments of student achievement, maintain reports, records, and required documentation.
  8. Create a conducive learning environment supporting students' physical, social, and emotional development.
  9. Ensure regular and punctual attendance at the worksite.
Work Environment & Requirements

The noise level is typically moderate. Travel across the district is required. Regular attendance at the campus is essential; remote work is not an option.

  • Knowledge of ARD process and IEP goal setting.
  • Understanding of curriculum, instruction, and relevant laws and regulations.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • Bachelor's Degree from an accredited university and valid Texas teacher certification with endorsements for the assigned subject and level.
  • Ability to adapt to a changing environment and stay current professionally.
