Job summary

Tucson Unified School District is hiring for a Pathway Exceptional Education (SPED) coordinator to support the Program Manager by overseeing logistics, candidate tracking and state compliance for the Special Education alternative teacher certification pathway.

The role serves as the primary front-line contact for SPED candidates and course facilitators, ensuring alignment with IDEA, IEPs, and Arizona standards. Flexible scheduling may include nights/weekends.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in special education or related field with 2 years K-12 SPED teaching experience.
• Associate’s degree in special education or related field with 4 years K-12 SPED teaching experience.
• Six years progressive experience coordinating programs, project tracking, or high-level admin support; 1 year supervisory experience.

Responsibilities

• Oversee day-to-day logistics for the SPED pathway.
• Manage candidate tracking and state compliance for the program.
• Serve as the primary contact for SPED candidates and course facilitators.
• Provide non-evaluative observations, coaching, and feedback on practices for exceptional learners.
• Schedule and coordinate activities; may include night/weekend hours to support adult learners.
