Job summary

Whitley City Elementary School in Whitley City, Kentucky is seeking an Instructional Assistant-SPED to support certified teachers in delivering instruction to individuals or small groups and to monitor student progress. Immediate starting date with school-based team collaboration.

Responsibilities include tutoring, scoring tests, behavioral monitoring, clerical tasks, transporting students when needed, and assisting in labs and activities while prioritizing student health and safety.

Qualifications

• Must possess a high school diploma or its equivalent and (1) have completed at least two years of study at an institution of higher education; (2) obtained an associate’s or higher degree.
• Must pass a criminal records check, a physical examination, and tuberculosis skin test prior to employment.

Responsibilities

• Tutor individuals or small groups of students, reinforcing and implementing academic and life skills instruction as directed by the teacher(s)
• Participate as a member of an instructional team including remediation teams
• Assist in scoring and recording test information
• Monitor and report behavior of students according to approved procedures; report progress regarding student performance and behavior; check and assist students with lab work as necessary
• Perform routine clerical duties such as preparation of instructional and classroom materials; have basic knowledge of computer operation; operate copy machines; maintain classroom records; maintain attendance records; maintain service logs for Medicaid billing; transport students as needed in a board-owned vehicle
• Provide support to the teacher(s) by setting up work areas, displays and exhibits, operating audio-visual equipment, distributing and collecting paper and supplies
• Assist in overseeing students while in labs; provide for supplies inventory as needed
• Assist students by providing proper examples, emotional support, a friendly attitude and general guidance
• Confer with teachers concerning programs and materials to meet student needs
• Contact the parents of students who are absent
• Assure the health and safety of students by following health and safety practices and regulations; assist students with personal/self care needs
• Direct group activities of students; assist in monitoring lunchroom and playground activities; assist in emergency drills, assemblies, play periods and field trips
• Participate in required meetings and required in-service training programs as assigned
• Perform other reasonable duties as assigned by the supervisor
