SPED Inclusion Teacher Assistant - (RTP20250430-053)

Description

  1. Help teacher prepare instructional materials and classroom displays.
  2. Help maintain a neat and orderly classroom and prepare classroom according to student needs.
  3. Assist with inventory, care, and maintenance of equipment.
  4. Help teacher keep administrative records and prepare required reports.
  5. Provide orientation and assistance to substitute teachers.
  6. Assist students with physical disabilities according to their needs, including transferring to and from wheelchairs, lifting, or positioning.
  7. Assist students with physical needs and personal care, including feeding, bathroom needs, and personal hygiene.
  8. Assist with classroom curriculum.
  9. Help manage behavior of students, including intervening in crisis situations and restraining disruptive or dangerous behavior as needed.
  10. Assume responsibility for learning and adapting to each student's medical, physical, communicative, and emotional needs.
  11. Work with individual students or small groups to develop motor skills and conduct instructional exercises assigned by the teacher.
  12. Help supervise students throughout the school day, inside and outside the classroom, including lunchroom, bus, and playground duty.
  13. Keep the teacher informed of students' special needs or problems.
  14. Maintain confidentiality.
  15. Participate in staff development training programs, faculty meetings, and special events as assigned.
  16. Perform all other tasks and duties as assigned.
  17. Regular and punctual attendance at the worksite is required.

Work Environment:

The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. Travel throughout the district is integral. A remote working environment or alternate work arrangement is not an option for campus-based employees, as regular and punctual attendance at the worksite and performing all duties there are essential.

Qualifications

  1. Accredited Senior High School Diploma or equivalent (U.S. equivalency), plus one of the following: Associate degree, 48 college credit hours, or passing an academic assessment.
  2. Paraprofessional certificate from the State Board of Certification.
  3. Successful completion of a specific training program for teacher assistants or six months of relevant work experience preferred.
  4. Demonstrated knowledge of child growth, development, and behavior characteristics.
  5. Ability to work with people from diverse ethnic groups.
  6. Strong organizational and interpersonal skills to meet the position's goals.
  7. Initiative and willingness to follow verbal and written instructions.
  8. Effective communication skills in both oral and written forms.
  9. Ability to work effectively with children with disabilities.
  10. Flexibility to adapt to a rapidly changing environment.
  11. Willingness to stay current with professional developments.
