Responsibilities

  • Provide one-on-one and small-group support to students in general education and inclusion settings.
  • Assist special education teachers during ARD/IEP meetings by providing oral interpretation and translating written documents as needed (sensitive/confidential information handled per district policy).
  • Reinforce lesson content and academic strategies using research-based instructional techniques and accommodations specified in IEPs and 504 plans.
  • Help prepare instructional materials, adapt classroom resources, and support classroom management and routines.
  • Maintain confidential records, complete progress documentation, and communicate student needs to teachers and campus staff.

Primary Purpose:

Lockhart High School seeks a compassionate, organized Teacher Assistant to support inclusive classrooms and assist with ARD/IEP communication for emergent bilingual students and families. The ideal candidate is fluent in English and Spanish (bilingual preferred), experienced working with diverse learners, and able to provide in–class instructional support, small‑group interventions, and accurate oral/written translations for ARD meetings and family communications. (This posting adapts Lockhart ISD’s emergent bilingual aide model and standard paraprofessional duties.)

Qualifications:

Education/Certification:

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Valid Texas educational aide / paraprofessional certificate or eligibility to obtain one per district requirements.
  • Bilingual Spanish/English fluency (oral and written) — preferred and strongly encouraged.

Special Knowledge/Skills:

  • Demonstrated ability to work professionally with students, staff, and families; strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Familiarity with ARD/IEP processes, special education terminology, and confidentiality practices.
  • Basic familiarity with classroom technology and student information systems (e.g., Skyward, Google Workspace).

Experience:

  • Prior experience in special education, inclusion support, or as a paraprofessional.

Major Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Provide one-on-one and small-group support to students in general education and inclusion settings under teacher direction.
  • Assist special education teachers during ARD/IEP meetings by providing oral interpretation and translating written documents as needed (sensitive/confidential information handled per district policy).
  • Reinforce lesson content and academic strategies using research-based instructional techniques and accommodations specified in IEPs and 504 plans.
  • Help prepare instructional materials, adapt classroom resources, and support classroom management and routines.
