Qualifications

• Requires 48 college hours or a ParaPro score of 464 for Title I campus.
• Requires 15 college hours or a HS diploma/GED with 464 ParaPro score for Non-Title I campus.
• Valid Texas Educational Aide II certificate required once employed.
• Ability to work with children with disabilities.
• Ability to follow verbal and written instruction.
• Ability to communicate effectively.
• Knowledge of general office equipment.
• CPI certification preferred (can be obtained after employment).

Responsibilities

• Adhere to federal, state and local policies and procedures related to special education aides.
• Assist in carrying out the instructional program.
• Maintain student records, audit folders and data collection.
• Assist in preparation, use and maintenance of instructional materials and equipment.
• Assist with teacher-planned activities, exercises and drills.
• Assist when needed in helping students in self care activities such as feeding and toileting.
• Assist in implementing the therapy programs which may require lifting and positioning.
• Attend professional meetings as required.
• Provide orientation and assistance to substitute teachers.
• Physically prompt students through instruction which may require lifting and positioning.
• Other SHARS Duties as assigned.
• Provide Personal Care as identified in applicable student IEPs.
