Join to apply for the Specimen Technician I Part-Time role at Quest Diagnostics

The SPT I is responsible for general support functions within the Specimen Processing Department. This position requires a data entry background. Functions performed may include, but are not limited to, A-station, presort, pickup and delivery of processed specimens to the laboratory, imaging/microfilming, centrifugation, and aliquoting. All functions must be performed with confidence, accuracy, and in a timely manner. The role is complex and requires good organizational skills, as well as the ability to learn and understand specimen types related to tests ordered by clients. The SPT I must understand and adapt to compliance regulations related to test ordering, which may change daily. This position is critical to quality and customer satisfaction. Since daily changes occur, flexibility is essential. The SPT I will handle various demands from customers. Most work is on the night shift, but weekends, holidays, on-call, and overtime may be required based on staffing needs. The department emphasizes productivity, quality standards, and departmental completion times.

  1. Responsible for all duties of the Specimen Preparation Assistant.
  2. Demonstrates the ability to learn SPT I duties and understand how all functions in Specimen Processing interconnect.
  3. Identifies issues with specimen types or missing information, assigns appropriate TIQ, and resolves issues when possible.
  4. Understands and applies compliance policies related to test ordering, including researching test information via translation tables, computer systems, and service directories.
  5. Meets production and accuracy standards within 6 months.
  6. Understands the relationship between ordered tests and received specimens.
  7. Completes all documentation legibly and within deadlines.
  8. Reports to work on time and follows attendance guidelines.
  9. Learns additional functions to progress within Specimen Processing.
  10. Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications

Required Work Experience: Strong data entry skills, exceeding 6000 keystrokes/hour.

Preferred Work Experience: Medical background, including medical terminology relevant to clinical laboratories.

Physical and Mental Requirements
