The SPT I is responsible for general support functions within the Specimen Processing Department. This position requires a data entry background. Functions performed may include, but are not limited to, A-station, presort, pickup and delivery of processed specimens to the laboratory, imaging/microfilming, centrifugation, and aliquoting. All functions must be performed with confidence, accuracy, and in a timely manner. The role is complex and requires good organizational skills, as well as the ability to learn and understand specimen types related to tests ordered by clients. The SPT I must understand and adapt to compliance regulations related to test ordering, which may change daily. This position is critical to quality and customer satisfaction. Since daily changes occur, flexibility is essential. The SPT I will handle various demands from customers. Most work is on the night shift, but weekends, holidays, on-call, and overtime may be required based on staffing needs. The department emphasizes productivity, quality standards, and departmental completion times.
Required Work Experience: Strong data entry skills, exceeding 6000 keystrokes/hour.
Preferred Work Experience: Medical background, including medical terminology relevant to clinical laboratories.
Able to sit or stand for long periods.
High School Diploma or Equivalent.
