Job Overview

Reporting to the divisional Laboratory Director, the Laboratory Manager oversees all administrative, technical, and fiscal aspects of the department. Responsibilities include personnel management, development of laboratory testing for accuracy and reliability, staff development, budgeting, adherence to metrics, supply chain management, and revenue cycle. The manager ensures high standards of care, implements policies and procedures, and handles training, budget administration, and employee relations.

Essential Functions
  • Interact professionally with co-workers, visitors, and staff, reflecting Jefferson’s values.
  • Lead Supervisors, Medical Technologists, and Medical Laboratory Technicians to maintain a high-functioning department with appropriate clinical competency.
  • Manage performance evaluations, hiring, terminations, and disciplinary actions for staff.
  • Ensure operational efficiency through staffing and fiscal management.
  • Establish and sign off on performance criteria, testing validation, QA/QC, and results reporting.
  • Develop and maintain laboratory guidelines, procedures, and quality control measures.
  • Prepare and manage the department budget in collaboration with the director.
  • Plan and oversee laboratory activities aligned with departmental and hospital goals.
  • Perform additional duties related to laboratory services as assigned.
Minimum Education and Experience

Education: Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution; Master’s preferred. ASCP or equivalent certification.

Experience: At least 7 years in Medical Technology, including 1-3 years in supervisory or leadership roles.
