Specimen Processing - Lab Assistant I, IUH Bloomington (Full-Time, Nights)

The laboratories of IU Health offer some of the most comprehensive laboratory services in Indiana! Open 24/7, they perform over 19 million tests annually, providing services to hospitals and physicians across the country.

Shift and Schedule

Overnight shift: 10:30 PM - 7:00 AM. Full-time, 40 hours, Monday-Friday. No scheduled weekends or holidays, but on-call during weekends and holidays.

Role Responsibilities
  • Perform specimen receipt, order entry, blood component preparation, waived testing, and pre-analytic processing of specimens.
  • Handle clerical tasks such as entering orders, verifying specimen validity, answering calls, and managing faxes.
  • Focus on attention to detail, organization, and basic computer skills.
Minimum Qualifications
  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Completion of a phlebotomy training program; laboratory experience or coursework preferred.
  • Valid Indiana driver’s license and good driving record may be required.
  • Understanding of traffic laws in Indiana may be necessary.
  • Basic computer skills, telephone skills, strong interpersonal skills, and ability to perform repetitive tasks.
