The laboratories of IU Health provide some of the most comprehensive laboratory services in Indiana. Open 24/7, they perform over 19 million tests annually. Besides serving IU Health, our laboratory testing services extend to hospitals and physicians nationwide.

Position: Laboratory Assistant I, Specimen Processor

This role involves providing general laboratory services, including specimen receipt, order entry, blood component preparation, pre-analytic processing, and clerical tasks such as entering orders, verifying specimens, answering calls, and managing faxes. The ideal candidate pays close attention to detail, is well-organized, and has basic computer skills.

Schedule: 12pm-8:30pm, Monday-Friday, with rotating weekends; includes working one summer and one winter holiday.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent
  • Completion of a phlebotomy training program; laboratory experience or coursework in biological or chemical sciences preferred
  • Valid Indiana driver’s license and good driving record for the past three years (may be required)
  • Understanding of Indiana traffic laws (may be required)
  • Basic computer proficiency
  • Strong telephone and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to perform repetitive tasks for extended periods

Additional responsibilities may include participation in departmental committees or projects, as determined by management.
