Job summary

eTeam Inc. seeks a Specimen Processing - Grossing Technician in Florida to prepare surgical specimens for Histologic processing and ensure proper labeling and accessioning. The role involves describing gross features and coordinating with Pathologist Assistants as needed.

Qualifications include an Associate/Bachelor degree or equivalent, and 3 months to 1 year of Histology or surgical gross experience; adherence to CLIA/CAP standards and safety protocols is required.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Perform routine and non-routine activities involved in the preparation of surgical specimens for Histologic processing, according to policies and procedures.
• Ensure appropriate specimen accessioning and labeling; maintain specimen and patient identification integrity.
• Describe gross anatomic features of routine specimens, ensuring all lesions, markings and sutures are noted.
• Escalate non-routine, complicated surgical specimens to Pathologist Assistants.
• Record measurements, weight, volume and abnormal findings as applicable.
• Dissect surgical specimens and prepare tissues for histologic processing.
• May perform basic Histology functions (embedding, microtomy, stains) if qualified.
• Complete all paperwork and follow laboratory procedures.
• Interact with pathologists regarding gross dissection/description activities.
• Identify and communicate problems affecting test performance to supervisors.
• Maintain compliance with safety, QA/QC, CLIA and CAP regulations.
• Maintain a clean, organized work area.
• Other duties as assigned by supervisor.
• Candidate must have reliable transportation and be punctual.

Job Description: Minimum Qualifications:

1. A.A., A.S., B.A. or B.S. degree or equivalent training and experience

2. 3 months to 1 year Histology and/or surgical gross experience preferred

3. Meets all requirements as outlined in corporate Minimum Qualifications for Personnel Performing Tissue Gross Examinations SOP and 1988 CLIA CFR 493.1489.

Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Perform routine and non-routine activities involved in the preparation

of surgical specimens for Histologic processing, according to policies and procedures.

2. Assure appropriate specimen accessioning and labeling; maintain the integrity of the

specimen and patient identification.

3. Describe gross anatomic features of routine, uncomplicated surgical specimens, ensuring that all lesions, markings and sutures are mentioned.

4. Escalates non-routine, complicated surgical specimens to Pathologist Assistants.

5. Record measurements, weight, volume and any abnormal findings as applicable.

6. Dissect surgical specimens and prepare tissues for histologic processing.

7. May be trained to perform basic Histology functions (i.e., embedding, microtomy, routine and special stains) if personnel meet all requirements as outlined in corporate Minimum Qualifications for Histotechnician SOP.

8. Complete all associated paperwork.

9. Follow the laboratory’s applicable procedures for job-related responsibilities.

10. Interact directly with pathologists regarding gross dissection/description activities, including defined specimen types that require direct supervision by a pathologist.

11. Identify problems that may adversely affect test performance or reporting of test results and either correct the problems or immediately notify the histology supervisor/manager, technical supervisor, or director.

12. Ensure all corporate safety, quality control and quality assurance standards are met.

13. Ensure compliance with all local, federal, CLIA and CAP regulations.

14. Maintain a clean and well-organized work area.

15. Other duties, as assigned by supervisor.

Additional Job Details: Candidate must have reliable transportation to get to/from worksite without issue (bus, Uber, rideshare is not reliable transportation).

Must be available to work whenever scheduled, BE ON TIME, and stay for the entire shift.

Excessive absenteeism/tardiness is not tolerated and will be cause for termination
