Job summary

Slate is seeking a Specification Generation Engineer in Warsaw, IN to author and maintain detailed technical specifications for automotive retail, service, and manufacturing facilities. You will oversee building, site, and equipment specs and ensure alignment with brand standards and regulatory requirements.

You will collaborate with architects, engineers, contractors, and vendors while supporting RFIs and addenda during bidding and construction phases.

• Coordinate with architects, engineers, contractors, and equipment vendors to develop and refine specifications.
• Collaborate with operations and service teams to translate functional requirements into technical documents and participate in design reviews and bid phases.

Ensures specifications align with brand standards, regulatory requirements, operational needs, and budget parameters. Thie position reports to the Head of Facilities in Warsaw, IN.**WHAT YOU GET TO DO****Specifications Development*** Author detailed building specifications for new construction, renovation, and remodel projects, including architectural, structural, civil, MEP (mechanical, electrical, plumbing), and finish specifications* Develop equipment specifications for automotive-specific systems such as vehicle lifts, tire changers, wheel balancers, alignment systems, wash systems, compressed air systems, exhaust extraction systems, lube/oil dispensing systems, and EV charging infrastructure* Write site specifications covering paving, drainage, fuel storage/dispensing systems, signage foundations, and lighting**Standards & Compliance*** Ensure all specifications comply with applicable codes (IBC, ANSI, IFC, NFPA, OSHA, ADA, EPA, local/state jurisdictional requirements)* Incorporate brand design standards and prototype guidelines into specifications* Maintain current knowledge of automotive equipment standards (e.g., ALI/ETL for lifts, UL listings, ANSI standards)* Coordinate with environmental and safety teams on hazardous material handling requirements (waste oil, refrigerants, solvents)**Collaboration & Coordination*** Partner with architects, engineers, contractors, and equipment vendors to develop and refine specifications* Work with operations and service teams to understand functional requirements and translate them into technical documents* Participate in design reviews, value engineering sessions, and constructability reviews* Respond to RFIs and addenda related to specifications during the bidding and construction phases**Document Management*** Maintain a master specifications library; update regularly based on lessons learned, new products, and code changes* Track approved product and equipment lists; manage substitution request processes* Coordinate with procurement on equipment standardization and preferred vendor programs**WHAT YOU BRING TO THE TEAM****Salary Range**The compensation for this position is the range Slate reasonably and in good faith expects to pay for the position taking into account the wide variety of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions, including job-related knowledge; skillset; experience, education and training; certifications; work location; and other relevant business and organizational factors.Base Pay Range (Annual)USD Annual USD AnnualAdditional Compensation and Benefits: Slate offers a wide range of competitive benefits, including medical, dental, vision, life insurance, disability insurance, vacation, and 401k.
