Job summary

STARCON International, Inc. in Louisiana is seeking a Combination Pipe Welder with four years of welding experience in petrochemical environments. The role covers X-ray quality welding in all positions using SMAW and GTAW, piping, structural welding, and field fabrication per sketches and isometrics.

The candidate will read WPS/PQR documents, verify fit-ups, and pass standard weld tests, including tube welder scenarios and confined-space work. Team collaboration and safety are essential.

Qualifications

• Welding in SMAW and GTAW with X-ray quality standards.
• Ability to read WPS/PQR documents and perform required weld tests.
• Interpret isometric drawings and blueprints; verify fit-ups and dimensions.
• Field measurements, fabrication and revision of piping per sketches and drawings.
• Basic rigging knowledge for moving piping details and fittings; set up jobs and prep welding areas.

Responsibilities

• Perform x-ray quality welding in all positions (SMAW, GTAW) with various electrodes.
• Weld piping, structural steel and supports.
• Read isometrics, blueprints, and plans; verify fit-ups and dimensions.
• Interpret WPS/PQR documents and pass required weld tests.
• Conduct field measurements and fabricate/modify piping per sketches and drawings.
• Prepare welding leads, build fireboxes and set up jobs; work in confined spaces when required.

The right candidate will have four years of welding experience in the petrochemical industry or related field with the required weld testing certifications from Starcon to perform the assigned tasks. You are responsible for performing X-ray quality welding in all positions with the SMAW and GTAW processes with a variety of electrodes. You will be required to use torch cutting and operating equipment such as pipe beveling machines. You will assure all hold points and requirements on code work are met. You must be willing to do tasks other than welding such as pipe fitting and boilermaker duties as directed.

• 4” S/80 GTAW 35/45 to 25/35 in convection box simulation. (100% X-ray) - add’ for Tube welder
• 4” S/80 GTAW 800HT to 304 in convection box simulation. (100% X-ray) – add’ Tube welder
• Ability to conduct field determine measurements, fabricate, modify and/or revise piping per sketches,
• isometric drawings and blueprints.
• Must have basic rigging knowledge associated with the moving of piping details and fittings
• Must set up you own jobs, stringing their own welding leads, building fireboxes in prep for welding, etc.

• Work in a team effort with all team members in order to reach a common goal.
• Be willing to assist other crafts when directed such as pipe fitters, boilermakers, riggers, etc.

Work Environment

The work environment will require you to work in SCBA, special protective PPE specific to the unit and working at heights. Extended work hours may be required. Exposure to outdoor weather conditions. Must be physically able to carry up to 50 lbs. of tools and/or material. Housekeeping
