Job summary

BluePearl Pet Hospital is seeking a knowledgeable Veterinary Assistant to work across our Specialty Departments. You will triage emergency cases, assist the DVM with estimates, perform diagnostics, and help care for patients in ICU or Inpatient wards.

You will also discharge patients, communicate with clients, and stay current with anesthesia/monitoring and CPR guidelines as directed by the supervising clinicians. This role is full-time and on-site in a fast-paced, pet-focused hospital.

Qualifications

• Provide nursing care to patients following hospital standards.
• Triages emergency cases and assists DVM with estimating as needed.
• Perform diagnostics such as radiographs and labs.
• Set up patients in ICU or inpatient ward and discharge when appropriate.
• Communicate effectively with clients.
• Understand anesthesia/monitoring equipment and assist ASA I/II patients.
• Stay current with R.E.C.O.V.E.R CPR guidelines.

Responsibilities

• Provide nursing care to patients according to hospital standards of care and core values.
• Report patient signalment, problem list and plan during nursing rounds.
• Understand classification of commonly used medications, monitor therapeutic response.
• Administer medications via appropriate routes and duration.
• Perform physical exams and monitor vitals as described.

• Adhere to CPR guidelines and assist supervising clinician as assigned.

Our Veterinary Assistants triage emergency cases as they come in and assist DVM with crafting and going overestimates as needed. In addition, they perform diagnostics (radiographs, labwork, etc), setting patients up in ICU or Inpatient ward, discharging patients, and handle client communication.

As a Veterinary Assistant, you will:

• Provide nursing care to patients according to hospital standards of care and core values.
• Report patient signalment, problem list and plan during nursing rounds.
• Understand classification of commonly used medications, associated side effects and appropriately monitors therapeutic response.
• Administer medications via appropriate routes and duration.
• Perform physical exam; accurately counts heart, pulse rate, capillary refill time, mucous membranes, temperature, respiratory rate and effort.
• Possess a working knowledge of anesthesia/monitoring equipment and assist with patients assigned ASA I or II classifications.
• Remain current on R.E.C.O.V.E.R CPR guidelines and demonstrates proficiency in designated role as assigned by attending clinician and/or supervisor.
