Job Summary:

As the leader of the health care team, provides professional nursing care, utilizing the nursing process in accordance with established standards of care, policies, and procedures. Demonstrates performance consistent with the Medical Center Vision, Mission, and Strategic Plan of the organization. Remains flexible to changing systems; is expected to demonstrate quality and effectiveness in work habits and clinical practice; and treats co-workers, patients, families, and all members of the health care team with dignity and respect.

  • Adapts care plans based on ongoing patient assessment and progress.

  • Communicates and discusses care plans with patients and families in a timely manner.

  • Monitors patient progress and revises care plans as needed.

  • Ensures care meets standards of practice and includes effective discharge planning with patient and family education.

  • Maintains patient safety by adhering to medication and procedural rights, fall prevention, and infection control protocols.

  • Ensures optimal pain management and patient comfort, addressing anxieties or concerns.
  • Ensures patient understands medication purposes, side effects, and administration instructions both during hospitalization and at discharge.

Documentation:



  • Maintains accurate, legible, and timely charting.

  • Reflects nursing process, interventions, and evaluations.

  • Uses computer systems effectively to enhance patient care.

Clinical Outcomes:



  • Discusses patient findings and progress with the healthcare team.

  • Demonstrates competency through ongoing validation and probationary assessments.

  • Makes comprehensive nursing decisions based on data interpretation, assessments, and patient outcomes.
