Job Description

Assists in the preparation of medications under the direct supervision of a licensed Pharmacist. Assists in maintaining records and reports; assists with maintaining and managing inventory.

Job Responsibility
  1. Initiates the patient intake process. Creates, updates, and maintains patient records (demographics, allergies, medication history, and insurance information) in pharmacy software system while utilizing the Health System's electronic medical record platforms.
  2. Provides patient-centric customer service in-person, over the phone, and through written communication.
  3. Communicates with patients and healthcare providers to facilitate filling prescriptions, resolve patient-specific issues, and coordinate medication deliveries, as needed.
  4. Defers escalations and clinical questions regarding prescriptions, drug information, and/or health matters to licensed Pharmacist.
  5. Navigates insurance plans and bills appropriate third-party payors. Utilizes knowledge of overrides, codes and manual billing. Addresses and resolves payor rejections.
  6. Operates point-of-sale cash register system according to policies and procedures while ensuring positive customer experience.
  7. Assists licensed Pharmacist in the non-clinical (non-judgmental) aspects of preparing medications by accurately filling, packing, labeling, and stocking medications according to established policies and procedures.
  8. Complies with Food and Drug Administration (FDA) mandates and self-imposed manufacturer restrictions on particular drugs, as applicable including Risk Evaluation and Mitigation Strategy (REMS) programs and manufacturer limited distribution drug requirements.
  9. Maintains current knowledge of, and complies with, standards of specialty accrediting bodies (e.g., URAC, ACHC), and annual specialty competencies related to specialty disease state management.
  10. Packages patient orders and coordinates with couriers to facilitate delivery of prescriptions in a timely manner.
  11. Assists licensed Pharmacist in maintaining related records and reports.
  12. Assists with managing inventory by monitoring required areas for outdated medications and stock levels. Ensures inventory is rotated and stored appropriately.
  13. Performs related duties as required. All responsibilities noted here are considered essential functions of the job under the Americans with Disabilities Act. Duties not mentioned here, but considered related are not essential functions.
Job Qualification
  1. High School Diploma or equivalent, required.
  2. Current license as a Registered Pharmacy Technician in New York State, required as of 4/25/21.
  3. Current Pharmacy Technician Certification required, plus specialized certifications as needed.
  4. 1-3 years of relevant experience, required.
