Job summary

Southern Illinois Healthcare is seeking a qualified Health Information professional to review provider documentation and assign ICD-10-CM and CPT/HCPCS codes for provider-based E/M visits and outpatient hospital visits. A high school diploma is required; an associate or bachelor's degree in Health Information or related field is preferred.

RHIA/RHIT/CCS/CCS-P/CCA/CPC certification is required, with at least 1 year of CCS/CCA/CPC experience.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma required; Associate or Bachelor Degree in Health Information or related discipline preferred.
  • RHIA, RHIT, CCS, CCS-P, CCA, or CPC required.
  • 1 year CCS-P/CCA/CPC experience (2000 hours) is required.
  • Standards of Performance include accuracy, integrity and accountability.

Responsibilities

  • Follows coding policies and standard operating procedures.
  • Uses encoding software and references to assign codes.
  • Provider-driven coding: reviews and revises code selection per documentation and guidelines.
  • Non-provider driven coding: reviews documentation and assigns codes accordingly.
  • Reviews coding edits and resolves issues to send encounters to claims.
  • Communicates clearly with providers when additional information is needed.
  • Reports issues to Coding Lead/Supervisor/Manager affecting quality or productivity.
  • Performs queue duties and maintains coding quality and productivity.

Education

High School Diploma required; Associate or Bachelor Degree in Health Information or related discipline preferred
