Job summary

UnityPoint Health is seeking a Registered Nurse (RN) to join the cardiology team at the Methodist Downtown Des Moines Specialty Clinic. The role focuses on triage, patient assessment, care coordination, and family support for cardiovascular conditions.

You will collaborate with cardiologists and a multidisciplinary team in a patient-centered environment. The position runs Monday to Friday, 8:00 AM–4:30 PM, with full-time benefits and opportunities for professional growth in cardiology.

Qualifications

• RN license active/unencumbered in state of practice or compact license.
• Prior cardiology or specialty care experience is a plus but not required.
• ADN required; BSN preferred.

Responsibilities

• Triage incoming calls to determine urgency of cardiac symptoms and next steps.
• Provide telephone triage for chest pain, SOB, palpitations, dizziness, edema, BP concerns, and guide to care level.
• Coordinate urgent and emergent care for acute or worsening cardiovascular conditions.
• Communicate with cardiologists and clinical team to ensure timely care.
• Educate patients and caregivers on cardiovascular conditions, treatment plans, and lifestyle changes.
• Document all interactions and care plans in the EHR.
• Track outcomes and coordinate follow-up and referrals for continuity of care.

Responsibilities

• Evaluate incoming patient phone calls to determine the urgency of cardiac-related symptoms and appropriate next steps.
• Provide telephone triage for symptoms such as chest pain, shortness of breath, palpitations, dizziness, edema, or blood pressure concerns, and guide patients to the appropriate level of care or follow-up.
• Assist in coordinating urgent and emergent care for patients with acute or worsening cardiovascular conditions (e.g., chest pain, heart failure exacerbation, arrhythmias, syncope).
• Communicate efficiently with cardiologists and clinical team members to ensure timely and effective care.
• Educate patients and caregivers on cardiovascular conditions, treatment plans, medications, and lifestyle modifications.
• Offer ongoing support and resources tailored to each patient’s needs, including symptom monitoring and when to seek urgent care.
• Accurately document all patient interactions, assessments, and care plans using the electronic health record (EHR).
• Track patient outcomes and coordinate follow-up care, diagnostic testing, and referrals to ensure continuity of care.

Qualifications

• Registered Nurse (RN) – Active/Unencumbered RN license in state of practice or compact license including state of practice.
• All levels of RN experience will be considered. Prior experience in cardiology or specialty care is a plus, but not required
• AAssociate Degree in Nursing (ADN) required; Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred.
• For positions within UnityPoint Clinic, team members may be required to work at or to float to other locations to support optimized staffing
