Position Summary

The Specialty Medical Assistant - Float provides high-quality care for diverse populations with acute and/or chronic illnesses in outpatient settings. They promote a safe environment, collect data, document accurately, follow policies and guidelines, and perform routine clinical and administrative duties to support the healthcare team. The role reports to the Manager of the area, with oversight by the Director of Clinical Operations or designee.

Minimum Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Graduate of an accredited Medical Assistant Program or an associate degree in Medical Assisting, or one-year verifiable related experience
  • National Medical Assistant Certification or Registration, or one-year verifiable related experience
  • Alternatively, two years of verifiable related experience as a Medical Assistant
Additional Qualifications
  • Current BLS/CPR certification from AHA or Red Cross
  • Knowledge of medical terminology, HIPAA, and basic clinical procedures
  • Proficiency with Electronic Medical Records (EMR)
Primary Responsibilities
  • Travel to different clinics within the region as needed
  • Complete and verify patient charts, enter data into EMR
  • Prepare exam rooms, assist with patient examinations, record vital signs and histories
  • Perform screening tests, assist with procedures, change dressings, perform first aid
  • Conduct lab tests, EKGs, administer medications/vaccinations as directed
  • Authorize drug refills, ensure equipment sterilization, maintain compliance with protocols
  • Discharge patients, communicate with staff, collaborate with the team, participate in quality improvement
  • Assist with medication programs, maintain inventory, ensure immunizations are up-to-date
  • Serve as resource or preceptor if qualified, document accurately, perform quality controls
  • Perform daily checks on equipment, stock supplies, check for expired items
  • Recognize and intervene in disruptive behaviors, communicate effectively, maintain confidentiality
  • Support Medical Home model, schedule specialty patients, conduct prior authorizations, gather patient information
  • Answer calls, perform administrative duties, and participate in team goals
