Job summary

The Royal Lancaster Infirmary is looking for 2 Specialty Doctors in Paediatrics to join our team at the Middle-Grade Level.

The post is based in the Paediatric Department at Royal Lancaster Infirmary, where you will be part of a team delivering day-to-day care for patients on the Children's Ward and Neonatal Unit.

You will be required to participate in the 1:8 resident on-call rota, which includes night duties, day shifts, and weekends.

Main duties of the job

You will work as a member of a team of middle-grade doctors on a full shift system. The clinical duties include:

• Providing day-to-day care for patients on the Children's and Neonatal Units, as well as covering the Central Delivery Suite and Post-natal Ward.
• Maintaining patient records and generating timely Discharge Summaries.
• Participating in Consultant-led ward rounds undertaken by the Paediatric Team.
• Providing emergency care for patients in the paediatric assessment unit and emergency department.

You will be encouraged to actively participate in audit, research, and training within the team. Additionally, you will contribute to the teaching program for junior doctors and help protect their teaching time during allocated sessions.

About us

We operate from three main hospitals: Furness General Hospital (FGH) in Barrow, the Royal Lancaster Infirmary (RLI), and Westmorland General Hospital (WGH) in Kendal, along with various community health care premises including Millom Hospital, Queen Victoria Hospital in Morecambe, and Ulverston Community Health Centre.

FGH and RLI offer a range of general hospital services, including Emergency Departments, Critical/Coronary Care units, and various Consultant-led services.

WGH provides general hospital services and an Urgent Treatment Centre for non-life-threatening conditions such as minor injuries and illnesses.

All three hospitals provide outpatient services, diagnostics, therapies, day cases, and inpatient surgeries. We also offer outreach services and diagnostics across Morecambe Bay.

Our community services for adults are delivered in homes, community centers, clinics, GP Practices, and community hospitals. Our goal is to support independence, improve health, and help manage conditions through high-quality care, advice, and support.

Person Specification

Education and Qualifications

• Basic Medical Qualification e.g., MBBS
• Full GMC Registration with Licence to Practice
• Post Graduate Qualification in Paediatrics

Experience

• At least four years' full-time postgraduate training (or equivalent part-time/flexible training), with at least two years in a specialty training program in Paediatrics or as a fixed-term specialty trainee in Paediatrics, or equivalent experience and competencies.
• Minimum of 6 months neonatal experience at Level 2 neonatal unit or above.
• Proven experience in audit.
• Some experience with acute/non-acute pediatric problems, including child protection, child development.

Skills

• Practical experience in managing acute and non-acute pediatric problems, including medical, surgical, child protection, resuscitation, neonatal care, child development, disability, and behavioral pediatrics.
• IT and computing skills.
