Job summary

Rochester Public Schools in Minnesota seeks a Special Education Paraprofessional to support students with IEPs at the school site. You will assist with instructional and behavioral support, health tasks, and data collection under supervision. Strong communication with staff is required.

Responsibilities include following IEP plans, supervising students, aiding with meals and field trips, and maintaining confidentiality while building positive relationships with diverse learners.

Qualifications

  • Minimum requirement; 60 college credits and/or a two-year degree from an accredited college or university.
  • In lieu of college credits or degree, Paraeducator Assessments may be completed.
  • High School diploma or GED required.
  • Experience working with elementary age students.
  • Computer skills preferred.
  • Flexibility and ability to work in a team.

  • Provide support to students with personal cares as needed.
  • Ability to work with students with different disabilities.
  • Observe and document students' academic and social behaviors.
  • Data collection of student progress on goals and objectives.
  • Provide feedback on student progress to teachers and staff.
  • Knowledge of iPads and devices used for non-verbal communication.
  • Support students with de-escalation techniques and use restrictive procedures as needed.
  • Supervise students in various settings before, during and after school.
  • Move to meet students at their level and provide supervision at meals, recess, and field trips.

Job description

WORK DAY: 6.5 hours per day

WORK CALENDAR: 180 duty days per year.

The Special Education ESP provides support to students at the school site withneeds who qualify for special education services in various school environments. The position is also responsible for implementing aspects of the student's IEP (Individual Education Plan) under the direction of certified staff.This can include instructional support, behavior management, health support, collecting data, and communicating academic and behavioral progress at the school site.Percentage of time spent on essential duties and responsibilities will be dependent on the individual student's needs and abilities.

  • Follow student Behavior Intervention Plans and Emergency Healthcare Plans.
  • Provide support to students with personal cares (toileting, dressing, feeding) as needed
  • Ability to work with a wide variety of students with different disabilities
  • Observe and document students' academic and social behaviors.
  • Consistent and accurate data collection of student progress on goals and objectives
  • Provide feedback on student progress to classroom teachers and related services staff
  • Knowledge using iPads and other devices used for communication of non-verbal students
  • Support students with de-escalation techniques and use restrictive procedures as needed (Training provided as needed).
  • Supervise students in various settings and locations in and around the school building, before, during andafter school hours.
  • Move on and off the floor to meet students at their level
  • Provide Support/Supervision at mealtimes, at recess and on field trips
  • May monitor and/or supervise students in the lunchroom and on the playground in all types of weather.
  • Model appropriate language and social behavior
  • Able to build strong relationships with children from all backgrounds and neuro-types.

  • Effective communication with all staff
  • Good organizational skills.
  • Regular, on-time attendance is required.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum requirement; 60 college semester credits and/ora two-year degree from an accredited college or university.Please include official transcript(s) with application.
  • In lieu of college credits or degree, one can complete the Paraeducator Assessments. The passing scores in Minnesota are 65% and70%.
