Job summary

Lansing School District is seeking a Specialized Behavior Assistant to support students requiring behavioral interventions. You will work with teachers, behavior specialists, and families to help students reach educational and social goals.

Responsibilities include one-on-one or small-group support, implementing BIPs, and monitoring progress with fidelity, using trauma-informed practices and de-escalation techniques to maintain a safe, inclusive environment.

Qualifications

• Experience reading and understanding IEP documents.
• Willingness to pursue teacher certification long term.
• Experience supporting students with varying needs (e.g., ASD, emotional impairment).
• Ability to work with classroom teachers, behavior specialists, and families.

Responsibilities

• Provide one-on-one or small-group behavioral support to students.
• Collaborate with teachers to implement behavior intervention plans (BIPs).
• Monitor and document student behavior progress with fidelity.
• Use de-escalation strategies and trauma-informed practices in classroom settings.
• Support instructional engagement with structured prompts and reinforcement.
• Communicate progress with teachers, specialists, and families.
• Assist with transitions and social skill development.
• Participate in IEP meetings and Behavior Team reviews.
